Calorie counting is a pain

But not with myfitnesspal.com.... I have the app on my phone so no matter where I am, I can add what I'm eating to my meal diary. I kept track for a couple days of my normal eating patterns before making changes. I was AMAZED at how many calories I was taking in on a dailt basis. Now I am on track with calorie tracking and exercise to finally meet my goals of being healthy for the long term...

it is such a fantastic tool, who knew that something like this would be sooooo motivating!0

It became second nature to me very quickly.
HINT: I put MyFitnessPal next to Facebook in my iPhone.
I think what freaked me out most was finding out how many calories CHEESE has. It made me sad. :frown: Laughing Cow Light cheese from now on!0 -
I have been much more successful with MFP than I have with any calorie counting before. They have a huge database and it's easy to just add your food. It takes me about 5 minutes to plan my food for the day and I love it.0

I tell everyone about MFP. Love it, and logging calories has become second nature to me too. My hubby jokes about what my calorie counter will say when I start to eat something I shouldn't. MFP holds me accountable and I can see exactly where I need to make adjustments, still a work in progress. My next goal, work on my activity level.0

It does take some getting used to searching for food and entering it, but if you eat the same thing again it is nice that it saves it. Just click and move on. I believe you must indulge every once in a while. If I get to the end of the day and see I am maybe 300 calories short of my goal, i take that as an excuse to get that "bad snack" to settle the sweet craving. No calories left, no snack. It's that simple.
As for increasing activity level, make it a priority in your daily life to get some kind of activity in every day. It can be walking, going to the gym, riding a bike. Find something you enjoy and commit to doing it every day. I have been doing tae kwon do for about a year and a half for three days a week, and I just started doing the P90X home workout program. It takes some time, but it will be well worth it in the long run.0 -
Awesome app! So much easier to keep track of calories and it is shocking how fast they add up!:sad:0

My friends who are personal trainers and nutritionist have always tried helping me with my weight loss journey, they always said "food diary, count your calories". Before MFP I was pretty skeptical and lazzy, I would PFFFT them and tell myself easy for them to say look at them, they are fit and know what they are doing. Now I have to admit to them that they were right and I have seen better results using MFP than just trusting my instincts on portion "control". MFP is a life saver and I love counting calories now lol.
(sorry for this being long winded just excited lol)0 -
Hehe. Funny OP! Agree that with MFP, it's on my phone too but I mostly use it from a pc.0

I think you'll enjoy using this program. When I first started really tracking food, my wife got a laugh every time I broke out the IPAD to log the food. Now, the logging is second nature and I enter everything. I used My Food Diary for a long time and just recently discovered you can add more meals to Myfitnespal, which helps keep better track of snacks. This really is a great program.
If you're honest with yourself, you'll be able to see the effect your eating habits and exercise have on your body. I've only dropped 6 pounds so far, but I've got the fever. Good luck with your goals...0
