Inacurate stones to pounds readings !? anyone else ....

I have a converter app on my phone ...

This morning on my scales I weighed 10 st 11.4 lbs ... and I switched the function on the scales to lbs and it read 153lbs exactly.

If i put 153 lbs into a converter on my app or on internet this tells me I actually weight 10st 13 lbs?

Confusing or what ? why can't this app be in stones and lbs ?

    There are 14 pounds in a stone. It's a fairly simple sum!

    well you would think so lol .. but these converters are clearly giving the wrong conversion rates.

    Surely 153lbs / 14 lbs = 10 stone 9 lbs ?? .. Why when I switched my scales into stones mode the reading was 10st 11 then ? - you would think it would be 10st 9lbs if i registerd at 153 exactly in the pounds mode?

    and the iphone converter tells me 153lb = 10.13 stones ??

    i would ignore the app and go with 1stone= 14 pounds

    still does not explain the 10 st 11 versus 10 st 9 issue ? lol .... 153lbs = 10.9 stone right? I am not being thick am i ?

    When you divide 153 by 14 the answer is 10.9 but this isn,t 9 pounds it is 9 tenths of a stone which is about 13 pounds and so 153 pounds is 10 stone 13 pounds. Hope this helps

    abbyatkins is correct ..... it is 10.9 stone (which isn't the same as 10 stone 9lb). ... basically - divide the pounds by 14 and take the whole number before the decimal point to get the full stones

    in this case : 153 / 14 = 10.928 .... just take the 10
    then ... 10 x 14lb = 140Ib for the 10 stone ... then add the difference between 153 and 140 to give the 13 lb


    Similarly - if you're 175lb - divide 175 by 14 = 12.5 (note - this DOES NOT MEAN 12 stone 5 pounds ... it's 12.5 stone). Again - take the whole number (12) ....
    then ... 12 x 14lb = 168 ........... then add the difference between the 175 and 168 to give 7lb. so ... it's 12st 7lb (which makes sense since 12 and a half stone is twelve lots of 14 pounds ... and an additional half stone (seven pounds).

    If there were 10 lb in a stone - your original maths would be correct as a "base 10" calculation...

    Consider hours and minutes (60 minutes in an hour = "base 60"). It's the equivalent of asking "how many hours in 150 minutes?"

    If we divide 150 by 60 - we get 2.5 . This doesn't mean it's 2 hours 5 minutes .... the same calculations apply as above ...
    take the whole number before the decimal (in this case - 2)
    2 x 60 = 120 mins
    then the difference between the 120 and the 150 is an additional "30 mins" (or 0.5 of an hour) ... so ... 150 mins = 2 hours 30 mins :-)

    lb and stone is a "base 14" calculation.

    I find it helps to remember that 140 lb is 10 stone. So 153 lb is 13 more - ie 10 stone 13.

    thanks for your help xx i knew i wasnt being thick but instead of using a converter i shall stick to good old maths !
