rinsing meat?

So I have about 5 lbs of ground turkey in my freezer of the 85% lean kind (it was $1.76 a lb and cheaper than all types of ground beef), and I thought it'd be healthier/leaner than beef too. Then I read the label and it's something like 17g of fat per serving...eek!

If I rinse the meat after cooking in like a strainer, how much does that actually eliminate some of that fat? I'm not worried about tracking purposes..I'll still track it as normal, but I'm just looking to reduce the fat intake. That's a lot of fat for one serving of meat!

I rinse my ground beef when its done cooking.. Im not sure as far as calories and stuff, but Im almost positive its gotta be lowering the fat content.

I could be wrong but I wouldn't think rinsing it lowers fat content that much. But it may be worth it. I strain my ground meats when I feel like it was too much or I end up with less lean meat due to cost but its more to keep spaghetti sauce less drippy.

I've never used ground turkey so can't be sure of anything on it. lol I'd rather skip beef altogether myself but I cook with meat really only because my brother believes he has to have his meat and I do all the cooking usually. Even if I make something with beans or lentils he feels like he still needs animal protein.

Draining it helps. I found that ground turkey/chicken tends to hold more moisture than ground beef when cooked. I usually drain it and then spread it out on paper towels, then roll the towels up with the meat rolled inside and give it a good squeeze. Depending on the fat content and how absorbent the towels are, I might do it a couple times. If I make patties out of it I will squeeze them between towels too.
