I never heard that they they helped with weight loss. I take them just because of the health benefits I hear about. The fish burp thing can be kinda gross but I don't have that issue very often. I do better with the pills that I did with the fish oil... yuck!

Take them before bed and add cinnamon pills with them. If you burp in bed it will smell/taste like cinnamon. Cinnamon is good to regulate blood sugar.

You can get the ones that are odorless.
Or you can take it before going to bed which is what I do :)

Fish oil pills are the best things you can take they improve everything as well as aide weight loss
  • I take them before bed to avoid the fish burps and I've also read that they are good for smoother skin, which is why I take them. I have "chicken bumps" on the backs of my arms and it seems to have helped so far.
  • It is true. But more so for "CLA". A good product is "Nutrasea + D". The vitamine D protects you against free radicals. Get cla 80 or more.

LOL that does sound kinda gross... I saw some fish oil pills the other day when I was shopping for supplements and I thought about getting them but decided not to. Has anyone else tried? I think their purpose is to provide "healthy" fats, like omega-3. Also it's supposed to be good for your heart and joints. So, it may not promote weight loss in and of itself, but omega-3 is good for your nutrition and aiding your heart and joints is helpful when working out. So, it aids in weight loss by doing these other things.

Anyone else have good experiences taking fish oil pills?

Fish oil pills are extremely beneficial for heart health and brain health, even if they don't aid in weight loss. The Omega acids (ARA, GLA, EPA) are VERY good for you.
  • If you were wondering what the bumps are really called it's Keratosis Polaris. There's no cure but the better treatments are tanning and lotions with salicylic acid combined with exfoliation.

    It's Keratosis Pilaris, not polaris.

I have this but it's gotten better as I've gotten older--I had it really bad as a kid on my upper arms. It would get better, though, when we would go on vacation in the summer and swam in the ocean. seemed the salt water did something...salt water is amazing for a lot of things though.
  • Sorry to take the other road here, but I read a report about the lack of monitoring what actually goes into these and it was gross/scary. I'm sure some brands are reputable and fine, but I wasnt about to take that chance so I quit taking the ones I had. If I can find that article I will come back and post it, but it was a couple years ago. Also, I asked my (internal medicine) doctor and he was not a fan of them. Don't mean to stir the pot, but for what it's worth........

I think my nutrition professor said that you could freeze them. It helps with the fish burps! I take flaxseed oil capsules, and I've found that if I take them at night, I don't go through that icky taste during the day.

I take ENTERIC COATED GEL CAPS of fish oil and have no problem with Fish Burps ( I did with regular caps though). My Mother has Wet Macular Degeneration that can be hereditary and her Eye Specialist suggested we take these.
  • My MD. recomended them to help with high colesterol. But too stopped because of the burps. Ill try them at night and see what happens. the omeg3's cant hurt.

Llet me give some information here EFA (omega 3-6-9) are essensial in a lot of things like joint lubrication, protein synthesis,Testosterone synthesis, cell repair and cell construction. But i havent seen any research showing that they help in fat burn and it make perfect sense since fat burning is the process done by the mytocondria which they actually turn fatty acids in the blood stream into glycogen. If anyone knows better correct me.Also there are entric-coated capsules that dont leave fish breath and/or burps.

There's a lot on the web about this. Google it.
  • To those who are talking about the fish oil pills causing gross burps...here is a fish oil supplement that's actually really tasty and so far hasn't caused me to burp at all (granted even if it did cause burps they won't be gross and fishy):

    http://www.barleans.com/omega-swirl.asp

My husband bought a container of the pina colada flavored oil from the gym we go to and it tastes exactly like a pina colada. I don't know how pricey the fish oil pills are, but I imagine that the barleans products are a bit more expensive. If you can afford it though and want to take fish oil regularly I highly recommend it!

I take them everyday and never get the burps. It depends on what brand you taking, try shopping around for a different brand.

I just read earlier today that the better the quality the less likely the fish burps. You can freeze them and take them at night. Freezing acts like a time release. I am taking them for my cholesterol. I have the GNC brand and they seem to be fine, no fish burps.

You can also get omega 3s by actually eating fish, dark greens, adding some flaxseed into various foods etc. I know the actual oil or oil pills makes a lot of people gag.
