Any vegetarian friendly foods high in iron?

I've been veggie for for a good few years nows and have never payed attention to the fact my diet (or lack of!) has been majorly lacking iron. I'd put down the fatigue and weakness to my weight, but recently realised that before I was veggie I had miles more energy and was generally more active. I googled it, and I know you shouldn't self diagnose (from the internet especially) but the fact my body gets the tiniest amount of iron made me wonder if it was a contributing factor.
I know you get a lot of iron in most meats, but am lost as to what vegetarian foods contain high levels of iron, or if I should start taking supplements?

You should probably check with a doctor and have some blood work done before you start taking suppliments. However, check out this site - http://www.soystache.com/iron.htm. (Scroll down to the BIG TABLE with all the non-meat sources of iron.) Enjoy!!!0

eat more dark green veggies, broccoli, spinach even peas etc, its way healthy and has HUGE amounts of iron, thats what i was advised when i was a vegetarian for 12 years, much better for you than suplements! =D0

Hello I've been vegetarian for the whole 22 years of my life. Foods that contain high amounts of Iron are spinach, lentils and beans/pulses. It's quite hard to eat foods which are rich in iron if you don't eat meat so a lot of vegetarians take iron supplements. When you eat anything containing Iron it's a really good idea to have something containing vitamin C like orange juice with it as vitamin C helps your body absorb iron. Hope that helps!0
