So which is better? I have stoped eating regular bacon and i don't eat much meat so i decieded to try the turkey and its not bad. But is it good for you? I have been blown away with alot of my decision on eating healthy so i'm coming to MFP to help me chose the RIGHT foods.

Turkey Bacon usually has about the same amount of calories as regular bacon, but more salt. So it's not a "healthier" alternative.

The turkey bacon is kind of misleading. It's typically made with white AND dark meat turkey, has quite a bit of fat and quite a bit of sodium in it. I found a low sodium canadian bacon at my local deli that I like. Less fat, same protein, and less sodium. All in all, you're just going to have to look at the labels.

    Isn't Canadian bacon just ham?

Center cut bacon is the bomb! All of the real bacon taste but less fat than even turkey bacon.

I go with canadian bacon it's yummier than ham and healthier. If I use bacon I go with regular over turkey there really isn't much diffreence nutritionally wise.

boars head canadian bacon 70 per 2 oz (i think thats per slice)
turkey bacon at Ihop 2or 3 strips 100 calories
jimmey dean turkey sausage links (3) 110 calories

I think the canadian bacon may be better but it depends on your taste.

    enjoy!!

I agree with the others; Canadian bacon is the healthier choice for lower calories and much lower sodium. If you are in the mood for bacon, you should just go for regular bacon. And yes, I am pretty sure Canadian bacon is just ham, served in small round slices! If you are a sandwich/lunchmeat eater at all, you can use your lunchmeat for double duty and just heat up some ham slices for breakfast!

I would definitely pick Canadian bacon over turkey bacon.
Back bacon is made from pork loin.

Read the labels. From my 2 strips of turkey bacon every morning I get
    70 cals
    3g fat
    12g protein
    400g sodium

Yes, this is a pretty big ticket sodium item, but I think it wins over real bacon in terms of the amount of protein and fat. (Well of course, real bacon also wins on TASTE).

I only get Applegate or Wellshire brands since they have no added nitrates. Once in a while it's probably fine, but since I eat the same breakfast Every Single Morning, I keep it free of additives.
  • may i ask what do you eat for breakfast

...and then there is the processing. I'm not sure if Canadian bacon or regular bacon are as processed as Turkey bacon. When I want bacon, I get bacon. Its rare that I want it however.

was that to me? my diary's open, but it's
    3 egg whites + 1 egg omelette
2 strips of turkey bacon (or sometimes the good canadian bacon (again, no nitrates) from whole foods if i've stocked up on it)
1 slice of all grain toast (dave's killer, silverhills bakery, or similar)
    1 Americano

am i sick of it yet? nope, i look forward to it every morning!
  • @ taso42 yes i was refering to you. Thanks for sharing. I thought eggs were not good for you as far as the sodium. As you may see I have had so many bad choices in picking foods but i'm learning.
