Anyone out there gone through the adoption process? If so which route did you take and why? International? Domestic? My husband and I have talked about it for years and are ready to get more serious in the process... Any advice is welcomed.

I am the oldest of six adopted children. Although my brother and I were adopted through my parents church, my 4 other siblings were adopted internationally. 2 are from India, one from Puerto Rico and the last is from Colombia. You should get in touch with Crackerjack345. She has adopted children as well and would know more about the process in THIS decade!!!

Yes, we did 19 years ago, we brought home our baby girl. It took us maybe 4 years and 2 adoptions falling thru before we adopted Tiff. The best advice I can give is to tell everyone you know, doctors, lawyers, Priest, friends and family that you are wanting to adopt. My wife’s family doctor, who she hadn’t seen in years told us about our daughter. Because she called him up to let him know we were looking. Our case worked out great, we had all the papers signed and ready to go when she was born, and we brought her home from the hospital.0

My sister and her husband adopted almost exactly a year ago. It is a complicated process!!! I'm sure she'd love to chat/email with you about any questions you may have. Just message me and I can exchange email addresses (She is also Amalena77 on here, but isn't on here too often) :flowerforyou:
Anyway, they adopted my niece Alyssa from Colombia (few pics of her in my profile). Alyssa was 11 months when they got her and they had to stay in Colombia for about a month to get her. I know they looked into domestic adoption, sibling/special needs adoption and other countries too. My sister made a blog her adoption experience. It is pretty detailed, goes into the home study, application, waiting, meeting Alyssa, etc. http://tuckeradoptionjourney.wordpress.com/0 -
Birthmother here. Hope you don't mind me joining in.
The adoptive parents worked with a private lawyer to get all the paperwork they needed and to get home study approved. From what I understand, its a long process and the only advice I can give you is to go speak with an adoption attorney either through an agency or private. We had a private open adoption.
I met the adoptive parents online at www.adoptionvoices.com check it out. There is alot of good info on there. When we met the adoptive parents, they had everything the state required for the adoption. We had a private attorney that took over the case once we had picked them as the adoptive parents. Our attorney came to the hospital and we signed the paper work within hours after the birth. Here we have 5 days to change our minds but we knew we wouldnt so after our hospital stay which was 3 days, we let them take the babies home with them. Our attorney said we were an "odd ball" case but I just thought I would chime in and let you know what we went through.0 -
I am from Ontario, Canada. We initially stared hrough Children's Aid and it didn't work out for us so we went international and adopted our daughter almost 6 years ago from China. Absolutely fantastic experience. If you want further information do not hesitate to contact me.
I wish you lots of happiness. :flowerforyou:0
