I am pretty muscular and know that if i could shed the fat on top of it, I would be happy! I know cardio & weight training are still the key along with a good diet, but are there any special diets or exercises that would work better to shed it?

Great question. The key to losing body fat is, clearly, in your diet. You will unfortunately have experiment with different diets to see which one works for your body. But eventually it will still come down to burning more calories than eaten.

Currently, I'm trying a cyclical ketogenic diet. Its extremely difficult, but so far effective. There are others than burn fat better on higher carb diets. Again, your body, and activity level will tell you which one works. The fun is in the burn.
  • I don't know, but I will be looking for an answer as well! lol I was just noticing my stomach how its toned on the sides, but I still have fat & skin in the middle. I think the only thing is to do cardio, focus on "healthier" foods, and stick to calories.

I did Atkins a couple years ago and that really seemed to work for me, I lost a lot of weight. I just can't do it anymore though and it's probably not the healthiest. I will probably look into some more low carb options.

I've been wondering the same thing. I know there are muscles in there somewhere!!! I can see them and I can feel them, particularly when I strength train, but there is still too much "fluff" covering them up.

Figure I will keep doing what I'm doing and eventually the transformation will happen. All about patience and perseverance!!

    Good luck! :)

Since you say you did well on Atkins, you could look into a type of low carb diet that will still allow you to burn some fat. Generally, a person will enter a ketogenic state, and burn more fat, when they eat less than 100 carbs per day. You will still have to do cardio to burn the fat and you won't have to be as strict with your carbs as on Atkins.

I think when the % body fat drops enough, the muscle definition will show through - something many of us aspire to... I tried the carb cycling diet - all that saturated fatty crap can't be good for you. Eat the right, healthy foods, in the quantity that fits your plan - results will follow. I'm not far off seeing my stomach muscles - the belly has gone, and with a few more pounds I think the six pack may show by summer...
