Ok-it is 4:30 AM and I am sitting here eating sauerkraut because I was looking for something very light and I grabbed it. I do not usually go to bed til 5 AM most of the time. When I eat after midnight should I post my food to the day before since I havent been to sleep? Or should I go ahead and make them for the day it is after midnight?

Personally I'd log them to the day before. Going to bed is a handy cut-off point.

Why the late hours? Insomnia or shifts?

just do the same thing no matter what you do. I use midnight as my line because it's always the same....

Im just simply a night-owl. I used to work 3rd shift last year..then I got a 2nd shift job but I would wait for my boyfriend to get off work so I could talk to him (he lives an hour away) . I don't work until 4 PM so I sleep until 3 PM most days. Then I am not tired when bed time rolls around. Its even worse when I workout it gives me energy!

I would log them as part of your day because you haven't been to sleep yet. During sleep, your body repairs itself and has time to get everything settled (so-to-speak). So sleeping is really the cut-off point, not midnight, since you are still awake and functioning. So really you are logging it all as one day- it just extends from 3pm to 5am instead of 6am to midnight.

I work 3rd shift and use midnight as a cut off, only because the website automatically moves to the next day. I figure 24 hours is 24 hours no matter how you slice it up. I just try not to eat anything large right before I sleep. For the record, I am new at this so my schedule is un-proven.

My food diary is open if you are curious. I work 11:30 pm to 7:30 am and usually sleep around 8 am to 3 pm.

I do the same thing because I am on anormal schedule on the weekends.

Do what works for you, but do the same thing everyday. And yes, 24 hours is 24 hours no matter what....
  • My husband regularly goes to bed around 3-5, and he gets seriously muchie during that time. He decided at the beginning of doing this to include those calories in the "current day" and the new day starting when he woke up. It works for him! :-)
