I'm looking for some good belly exercises! I do a lot of crunches and planks... but can anyone give me some really awesome ab exercises?? I would love to get my belly more toned as I'm losing weight! Thanks for the input

The muscle is there you need to have at least 8% bodyfat for you abs to really show.

Amy Dixon's ab and back workout. Only takes about 10 minutes a day and can be downloaded off the Exercise TV website for $1.99.

It's actually not healthy for a woman to have less than 15% body fat for hormonal reasons.
  • It is tempting to only work the abs, but it is important you work your entire body, mostly your core. I would suggest purchasing the book The Abs Diet for Women by David Zinczenko. It has done wonders for me, and is partly responsible for my last 5 pounds lost.

In response to your question: Ab exercises: (you can google the names for how-tos)
    UPPER ABS
    raised feet crunch
    decline crunch (with/without weights)
weighted crunch (no weights? use a book/canned food/something with weight)
    long arm weighted crunch
    toe touch crunch
    sicilian crunch
    LOWER ABS
    bent knee leg raise
    pulse up
    hanging knee raise
    seated ab crunch
    raised knee in
    figure 8 crunch
    flutter kick
    OBLIQUES
    oblique v-up
    saxon side bend
    speed rotation
    russian twist
    side jackknife
    two handed wood chop
    medicine ball torso rotation
    TRANSVERSE ABDOMINIS
bridge (like the yoga move plank, but on your forearms instead of on your hands)
side bridge (side plank on forearm)
    two point bridge/plank
    negative crunch
    swiss ball bridge/plank
    swiss ball pull ins
    barbell/dumbell rollout
    LOWER BACK
    back extension
    twisting back extension
    swiss ball superman
    swimmers backstroke

    Best of luck!

    Kettlebells!
And Jillian Michaels Shred It with Weights!
    It's a killer workout.

  • try the 10 minute solution dvd's, there are two belly ones, tummy toners and belly blasters, i love them both and they have 5 10 min workouts that target different aspects of tummy toning :) Uses yoga, pilates, crunches, twists, cardio and lots of ways to taregt the lower, mid and side abs.

    Not true for women.

My obliques started to show as early as 17%BF.

8% are you sure! It is possible for a older woman to have 8% body fat?
