Looking for a calorie monitor without a monthly subscritpion

I know the bodybugg or other armband type monitors are great, but I don't really want to dish out over 200 dollars (I would have to have the digital display to go with it) if the thing is going to be completely useless without the monthly subscription. I am definetly entertaining the thought of getting the bodybugg, but if there are any good calorie monitors that don't require the monthly subscription out there, I would love some suggestions. Thanks for all the help.

I have the bodybugg and digital display. After the free months online that it comes with I don't plan on using the website with it anymore. With the digital display you can view the day before's info. For me that's all I'll need. I highly recommend getting the bodybugg with digital display.0

FitBit - $100 and no monthly fee. Mine is very accurate.
It measures daily living activity and sleep. You can log specific activities (ie: I hit start to log my walk/run, then stop when I get back home) so I know how far I went and how many calories I burned doing it. It also shows you how many steps you've taken and what your active score is.0 -
Thanks for the suggestions I will definetly check some of these out. When I was shoping at the 24 hour fitness site I had a sudden popup chat with a bodybugg expert and got to ask several questions. They made it seem like the digital display wouldn't even work without the monthly subscription active. Maybe I just misinterpreted, but that's what I thought.0

Never mind about the article posted, wasn't much of comparison between two product.
One thing I've been wondering how the fitbit could get any accuracy since it's just simple clip somewhere on you. The number of calories burned based on so many factors: weight, gender, heart rate, etc. I don't see it can really help you to give you those info are really for you. Just like my phone app I use to walk outdoor, it track the distance, but the calorie counts sometimes are ridiculously wrong (compare to my HRM reading).0 -

Not sure if that plan will work, unfortunately. I'm pretty sure they have them rigged to "fill up" after some time (2 weeks maybe), and after that, they won't collect any more data until you sync with the website. That's what the tech support told me when I contacted them anyway.0 -
If someone as geeky as me, here is a blog about "A brief look into how the Fitbit algorithms work":

It's really not tailed to individual for my opinion.0
