Working out alone or with a buddy?

I have always worked out alone, but recently, my friend joined the gym and we have been working out together. It's a lot more fun and we really motivate each other. We also eat lunch together and try to encourage each other to make healthy choices.

What is your preference? Do you work out alone or do you have a buddy?

  • Working out with someone is deffinatly better for me! I have pretty good willpower and motivation but sometimes you need a big kick in the a** to keep you moving! Thats what my husbands for!

I don't work out with my buddy directly, but we report in daily what we have done. During good weather we actually go outside and run together. When I am in the gym, I prefer to work out alone with just my music.

Both. When I walk it's with my best friend Pam. When I work out it's alone at my house.
  • I am a bit of Both, there are days when I like to have someone with me and then there are other days that I NEEEED to be alone. I find that if I exercise by myself I always have to out do myself from the previous day... so I push harder, when I am with someone else I dont have the ability to do that, because I dont like to leave people behind.

I am very driven and have alot of motivation, I have had friends who have wanted to lose weight, but i use more energy trying to motivate them and they still have no interest, so its difficult in that respect.

But if I can help someone out in weight loss and they are serious about it I am there 100%

I prefer to work out alone. I like to use my workout time as my thinking / working in my head time.

I do "go" to the gym with my daughter, and sometimes another friend joins us, but once we leave the changing rooms, I don't really talk or work out with them until we meet up on the mats to stretch it out at the end.

I do both. A nieghbor likes to walk with me after work and if I am doing Wii or Xbox I do that with my daughter but for my nightly cardio I usually do alone and after most have gone to bed (they get tired of hearing me count....lol).

My alone time is my workout time. Working out by myself, clears my mind.
  • I like to work out alone. I feel like if I work out with someone else I'll get discouraged or they'll slow me down. Once I'm at a healthy weight though I think I'd enjoy working out with a buddy sometimes, it'll make it so I'm more likely to stayyy in shape and go to the gym/ out running/ etc.

When we do cardio, we both put on our earphones and ignore each other. When we do weights, we talk a bit, but mostly we just get on with our separate workouts. Luckily, we are at roughly the same crappy fitness level.

I used to prefer to go alone because if the other person bailed it became an excuse for me to bail.
We work out at lunch everyday and it helps to push each other. Somethimes we all go together but split up once we get there.
now, since we'ew actually weightlifting we need the spotter.
everyone is different...you have to find what works for you and be flexible...
  • Well that all depends. If I am going to a class or working out to a tape then I prefer friends. If I am working out on a cardio machine or weights then I would rather be alone with my headphones on. I am more focused that way, and get more done.
