How often do you measure?

I have been on my weight loss journey for just shy of a year now. I am happy with the success that I have had so far (over 38 lbs). However, I had never taken any body measurements. That just changed. I had just gotten a shake weight. As odd as it may look, it really is a killer on the arms. I asked some of MFP friends how I should log it & some asked me to take before & after pictures & measurements.
So I measured my arms, waist, & legs. I was almost mortified by how big I truly am still. Not in a horrible way, more of a kick in the pants/wake up call/reconfirmation to myself. Plus, I don't have any measurements before I started losing weight so it could have been that much higher.
Now that I have a starting point, how often am I suppose to take new measurements? I weigh in once a week, is there a set amount of time to measure in?

You can't really measure as often as you weigh - I try to measure once a month at the least, never more often than that!0

About once a month here as well.0

I am in a weight loss challenge and we weigh in and measure every 2 weeks. I weigh at home everyday to keep me on track.0

I read somewhere (can't remember where) to measure every 2-4 weeks. I too just started measuring this week and plan on, at first, measuring every two weeks. If I feel that I'm not seeing fast enough results I plan on waiting longer.0

I measure once a week. I see improvements every week. That just helps to reinforce in my mind that I am making progress. Every little bit makes a difference.0

I measure every two or three weeks but I think once a month is the norm.0

I measure about every 2 weeks, this way I have time to actually see improvement0

I measure rarely. Usually just the waist and hips.
That shake weight will only work for a little while until your muscles adjust then it won't work anymore. I hate telling you this but our body is designed to adjust/adapt.0 -
I tend to go against the "norm". I weigh myself every day, but use the weekly average to gauge if I'm losing/gaining weight. My measurements I take once a week. Since I am working my entire body, these are the measurements I take: neck, chest, both upper arms (biceps), waist, hips, thighs & calves. That way, I can get a better idea as to where I'm losing/gaining.
I also take pictures every 4 weeks or so. I take a front shot with hands on hips, front shot with arms flexed, side view, and back shots just like the front ones. I keep them all together for comparison. I'm at a plateau right now, but all this has helped me realize that I'm not gaining anything but still making a difference.
Good Luck!

I measure every two weeks. Usually a every 10 pounds you loose result in a couple inches lost. I try and measure the same time every two weeks. (ie in the morning, or at night) I was also mortified you to find out OMG my waistline is 39! Should it not be somewhere in the 28 range. But I find it motivated, it makes me want to workout harder, or eat more strictly.
I did the dr b diet prior to this record waiting and lost 30 pounds, the only reason I dropped it becuse it was to costly. But this website entails all the tools that are needed to be sucessful.
Good luck and whish you many more pounds of weight loss0 -
I just want to say that I love measuring and am so glad I was encouraged to do that in the beginning. I have been on MFP since last May and sometimes the scale doesn't move for weeks. That is when I can go to my measurements and see a change. I love it. It is motivating. I measure about once a month.0
