I did Tae Bo last night for 25 min and according to my HRM burnt 123 calories. I would like to find an exercise that burns more in the same amount of time. I can consume just as many calories as the rest of 'em, but cant burn as much. grrr... Any ideas welcome.

Fitness boot camp! Amazing work out.
Running, push-ups, sit-ups, burpees, squats, mountain climbers, bear crawls, you name it and you'll probably do it at boot camp :)

You're only 118 pounds. Burning more calories isn't going to help. You are already at a healthy weight so you need to focus more on strength training and less on cardio. We don't have enough 'wiggle room' as far as calories. If your calories are too low you lose muscle mass not fat because your body is hanging onto fat thinking it needs to store fuel for future famine (starvation mode)

Check out the post in my signature: relatively light and trying to get leaner. It's a long post but the guy knows his stuff.

Heavy weight lifting. You won't bulk up. That's hard for men to do and even harder for women (we don't have enough testosterone). Focus on more weight and less reps and use cardio to eat more. You need to eat enough to fuel your body and increase your protein for this.

Yes, I definitely want to try Zumba. Do you go to a class or do a dvd at home?

Based on your weight, you are going to burn less calories doing the same thing as someone heavier, because they have more to move around. I agree with the insanity or turbofire. Anything interval should help.

I agree with this post. Now if you are trying to get your heart rate lower like I am currently trying to do. which is GREAT for the heart. I would consider running, it is the hardest on the cardiovascular system and thus will enhance your cardio health.

but as far as "looking better" you need to hit the weights. You are already quite small. don't worry about burning calories, work on maintainence.

I added a little to the original post. Yes, cardio is great for the heart. My resting heart rate was 85-95 before. Now it's around 70. But I do power walking/jogging/walking intervals on the treadmill because I just hate running.

Thank you so much for your reply. This is definitely the answer. I am going to try switching gears and focus more on the strength training.

I agree... you are at a healthy weight. You should try focusing on toning and building lean muscle mass now! And true... HEAVIER weights! Women can be afraid to do this because they don't want to get HULK LIKE... But that's IMPOSSIBLE without some sort of steriod use. Since you are smaller, you shouldn't expect a huge burn, like someone else said, you have less to move around!!!

Great Job... hope this helps! Best of luck!

Jillian Michales No more trouble zones is a great dvd for toning up, and as you can choose which sections you do you can work out for as long as you want or do the full 40 mins.

I started the couch to 5k this week. So maybe a combination of it and strength training will be the sweet spot for me. THanks

You didn't specify height so it may be an issue, but I'm guessing not. In any case, ^^^^ +1.

Jillian Michaels, Jackie Warner, Bob Harper, Insanity P90X to name a few DVDs you can do at home. I did JM banish fat boost metabolism this morning and bunred 500 calories. Again you will get out of it what you put into it. So always give 110% effort.

You're welcome. Each pound that comes off I am burning less calories during exercise sessions (I hated having to change my weight on my HRM). I'm waiting on my pull up bar to start P90X and had to increase my weights during Jillian's No More Trouble Zones and was able to increase my calorie burn a bit. I like to hit at least 300 but doesn't always happen. I'm looking forward to P90X. What's nice about it is it has cardio, plyometrics, yoga and weight lifting.

Nevermind, I see that you're female. I'm 35 as well, and as young as I feel I still have to remember that I am a woman. I've been trying to put on muscle because, at this age, if I just focus on losing weight I'll just look sickly.

Both. They have classes and also DVD's. Either one. The classes are more fun and motivating.
