    It's intermittent fasting. Basically, you fast for one or two 24 hour periods per week and eat pretty normally the rest of the time. This creates your calorie deficit. You do eat every day. You pick a 24 hour period like 2pm one day until 2pm the next day so that you have food every day. You can drink coffee, water, tea, etc. during the fast, just no calories. There are a lot of health benefits that Brad Pilon talks about like positive hormone changes and decreased insulin resistance. I have tried it and the fasting is pretty easy. It really made me realize what being hungry really felt like so I can handle cravings better. My problem is that I tend to want to binge a little when breaking the fast. I have to be really careful with that. Sometimes it's nice not to have to constantly think about food. If you know you're not eating again until sometime tomorrow, you can just relax and forget about it for awhile.

    Unless you have a toddler running around snacking all the time. if i was single this would be easier, but with a husband and baby it seems like it would be tough. I am thinking of using more protein meal replacements though during the week for lunch's and snacks.

    Better than being obsessive compulsive about food. No problem with fasting. It has a very long history of people doing it for various reasons. A 24 hour fast does not negatively harm a healthy person's health, and in many ways has a positive effect. And, yes it is a rest both to the body and to the mind not having to thing about what to eat next. I have done Eat Stop Eat for a couple of months, and find it very beneficial.

    I didn't say this. This was a response from a poster who was trying to explain this particular diet to me - trying to be helpful.I just didn't understand your reply. I would say based on your nasty attitude that YOU are the one who needs to address a problem. I asked a simple question about what this diet was. I don't need all the sarcasm.

    I did my first fast yesterday. Very zen. Got to concentrate entirely on waking up, exercising, having a nice relaxing shower and then working all day without once having to plan, make, and then consume my many meals. I went from 8pm to 7pm but could have easily gone the 24 hours, but I didn't want to eat too late in case I needed extra food from the fast (it was my first time afterall).

    I wasn't hungry the entire time. I drank a lot of water -- I don't drink coffee or tea, so I was very hydrated. It's recommended that you do strength exercises, so I did some with resistance bands and some light cardio in the morning (Zumba!)

    I made a small sandwich and some soup and was stuffed half way through my soup, but finished it off because I figured I should get in the 800 calories. I wasn't at all hungry this morning and for the first time in a week, wasn't exhausted last night by 9pm. I slept very soundly and woke up so refreshed today. After I ate this morning, I was regularly hungry again (every 2 hours or so).

    Going to do this again on Sunday night (to Monday evening). I got rid of the bloat that I had accumulated on my belly from a rough weekend (I was sure it was water weight, but it just wouldn't go away). There's a ton of info on the concept, and I highly recommend it.

  • i just started ESE this week as well, it definitely feels really good in terms of controlling your food cravings, flushing out your system, giving your digestive organs a break, not to mention taking care of that pesky bloat some of us tend to accumulate. i did get really cold though from not eating and by the time i made it to the gym (8 pm) i felt pretty weak. i did the fast again today, but i drank a chai latte with soymilk halfway through... i don't know if that would totally destroy the effects of the fast or something but i needed some energy dang it! next time, probably monday i'll try it again drinking only water but i find it's just really hard to get a good workout in after a day of no food. oh and to the person who seems flummoxed by the idea of not eating being relaxing, it's actually very relaxing, all of your senses feel more heightened and i think you experience a stronger overall awareness of your body. most food makes me feel lethargic so i really enjoy my fast days!

    Tuesday morning, I had gained THREE inches around my stomach (belly button) and even though I said I wouldn't, I stepped on the scale to see a FIVE pound increase. That was from really only one and half days of bad eating/drinking. I didn't log it because I knew I didn't consume 17500 calories more than I burned and it was water. I tried all day Tuesday and Wednesday to get rid of it and it wouldn't budge. So I ate a little extra on Wednesday to tie me over for Thursday, although I honestly didn't really decide to do it until I woke up not at all hungry and thought I'd see how long I could go without actually being "hungry". I had an emergency pear waiting at work in case I found I couldn't last.

    My bloat is completely gone and I'm now lighter than I was at this point last week (so 5+ pounds gone -- obviously it was primarily water, but it was depressing to look down and see the gut when doing crunches instead of a flatter tummy. I'm going to do it Sunday again. Going to have a nice filling dinner and then because Sunday night used to be a "snack 'em if you got 'em" type of night (and the Oscars make it even moreso), my body and mind knows that once I finish dinner, that's it for the night. No "oh I'm so hungry because you used to watch tv and snack". If I wake up famished on Monday and water doesn't placate it, then I'll break the fast (apparently 18 hours gives you the similar benefit as 24 hours, fyi!) It's a good plan that really connects your body and your mind. I never thought I'd recommend something like it because I'm not at all about the "quick results" (at 143, I'm eating around 1800 calories a day, so not eating is HUGE for me!) but this is awesome for me. Hopefully those on the fence will do some research and try it before they knock it.

    If I got on the scales and saw a 3 pound increase, I would sling the scales out into the front yard!! LOL!! I think I'm gonna do the research today after I get my chores/work out done. Doesn't seem like there is much to it, but I want to be sure! Thanks!!!

    Yes, I work out when I fast. I find my workout energy no different than on the days I don't fast. Some people find they have more energy and are more focused, others not so much. I find the longer I do these once of twice a week fasts, the easier they are. Like everything you have good days and bad days. I have that with most things in life if I really consider it. If the fast day seems way to hard, for whatever reason, I have the option to not continue that day, and go to eating what I do normally for the day and try fasting another day. Since the key with Eat Stop Eat is flexible intermittent fasting, I can and do switch the days I fast based on the things I have to do in a week. It works for me so far, and is simple enough I can continue it without lots of work on my part.

    If you read the Eat Stop Eat e-book, Pilon specifically says that you should do strength training with this to prevent any muscle loss. I have done weight workouts at the end of a fast and had no problems at all. I have also gone on runs at the end of a fast. 24 hours is really not that long as long as you stay hydrated.

    Thank you for clarifying that for me. I had no idea that my saying that not thinking about food for 24 hours was relaxing TO ME would cause someone to become so upset that they had to use asterisks and call me stupid. Thanks again.

    I agree!! There's another poster who gets all upset because I (maybe others too, not sure) will use all caps sometimes to post threads! She says I'm yelling. LOL..If only I had time to worry about such petty crap!!

    As to the poster who called you stupid - she also said I had a problem that needs to be addressed. My only problem on this site is the nasty remarks that are really uncalled for. I've never been rude or hateful on any thread. I like having friends!
