Personally, I think clean eating is all about recognizing everything on the label as a natural food. So if your applesauce is all natural (and you recognize and can identify each ingredient on the label), then it's clean!0

why don't you just make your own applesauce, it takes minutes!!!!!! just take your apples, core them, cut into chunks-don't peel them!
put in pot on stove with cinnamon, touch of water, cook, stir a few times till you get the consistency you want. no preservatives or additives and totally yummy:)0 -

From my understanding of what "clean" eating is, if it comes pre-packaged, already prepared, it's not clean. I'm interested to see the replies that are more educated on the subject than I am.0

Clean eating is all about following the rules of the plan you're currently on. For example, someone who is on a low carb diet would eat a plate of bacon and call it clean, but a bowl of whole grain pasta and call it a cheat meal! Applesauce is pretty safe -read the ingredients and if there's anything you can't pronounce, back away and run!0

Clean eating is a diet program based on the idea that the best way to eat is to abundantly enjoy whole foods -- that is, foods as close to their natural state and you can get them. This means eating fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins instead of pre-packaged, processed foods or fast food. Clean eating is also committed to replacing saturated fats with healthy fats. Many on the plan don't count calories, but instead trust in good quality, healthy food.0

That sounds about like what I thought it meant. So, applesauce?
I'm not trying to follow any specific plan. I just like to have an understanding of what plans are out there and use parts of each, a la carte. So far, so good.0 -

Great post!!!
I cook all sauces from scratch (a few guilty pleasures in small amounts) but anything can be made at home....there are some great links on here to blogs etc if you have a look about!!!0 -
My mom always said, Try to eat as close to the vine as possible, and I think that's good advice. The more foods you're eating in their natural state, the cleaner the eating. Fruits, veggies and beans = the closest to the vine. That being said, it's nearly impossible to eat just fruits and veggies without starving, and IMHO, it's a little boring too. But I'm always looking for ways to add fruits and veggies into my meals because it feels like they provide the highest nutrition and they make me feel the best.
I love the recipe for apple sauce! Never considered making it myself. I usually buy Trader Joe's unsweetened (made with just apples). Thanks for the suggestion!0 -
i first heard about clean eating thru "Tosca Reno", she is the master of it and has several books about the subject. Definitely worth having, I follow her w/o books too.

It is not a diet, it is a lifestyle.0 -

I agree with everything stated here except the part about saturated fats. Animal fats coming from farm raised meats and coconut oil are both clean and very healthy. The research is there.........0 -

I stared reading "The Eat Clean Diet" a few weeks ago. Natural is clean but don't beleive the labels that say all natural. Read the ingredeance. Apple sauce made from apples, water and asorbic acid is clean. Look for food that have little added to them.0

I love making stuff like apple sauce. If you peel the apples before making the sauce I feel like it's less apple-y in flavor, but I don't like the texture of the peels in the sauce, even if I use a stick blender to puree it. So I run it through a chinios. You could also use a food mill if you have one. It makes a finer textured sauce, which I like and removes the peels.0
