"Biggest Loser" video & my questions

Options
I'm kinda new to this show. My interest was peaked from all the posts about it so I went to the site to poke around. I watched this video of the trainer explaining the concept of calorie counting, metabolism and excercise. http://www.nbc.com/The_Biggest_Loser/video/clips/week-1-jillians-facts/661745/

Some questions I have:

1. In the beginning, the trainer talks about the danger to the metabolism by eating too little but then instructs all women to eat 1200 calories a day and burn 4,000 calories. This means they are eating minus 2800 calories a day. Isn't that called starvation?

2. What is a "body bug". It seems like a HRM but it is attached to their arm and not chest.

I've wondered about the negative calorie thing also; but I think they mean do not eat less then 1,200 only. I figured out first hand that eating less that 1,200 (only about 550 calories and then working out hard will mess you up... i almost passed out last night)

The bodybug sounds like a good thing my gym has them (but I haven't the $ to pay for the program) somehow it straps to your arm and monitors the calories you burn and it is linked to a computer which inputs that information and then you add your food info into the computer and it creates a report.
try my Gym's website www.thebodyshop.com (i think) or Google The Body Shop, Bend, Oregon. On their website they have an article about the bodybug.
