Hi ladies..

I'm just wondering how many of you out there may have the same problem I do.

I am 27 and over the last 6 years, I've been lucky if I got my period 2 times a year. I have been to doctors who have done tests, ultrasounds... blood work and they just attribute it to my weight. They want me to go on the pill, but the first time I used the pill... I developed chronic candida (Bad yeast infections). I REFUSE to go back on the pill.

I have currently lost a little over 12 pounds, and I am working out alot. Do any of you notice your period disapearing or coming back while working out?

Many women pay to have only a couple periods a year by being on things... but let me tell you, not having your period like you should... can make you feel awful, all the time. I am hoping my weight loss and continued loss will help my body to get into the right gear.

Thanks for your input!!!!

  • I pulled the most random thing out of your post, but the pill gave me chronic yeast infections too, I just never realized it was the pill that caused them until you said that.. But it makes complete sense.. Lol. Did yours go away after stopping the pill?

I've always been a big girl, and never been regular. I also have Poly cystic ovarian syndrome, which can cause missed/irregular periods. I think that because I've never had a regular period that it doesn't really bother me if it comes monthly or 3-4 times a year. I do notice that when I get lower in weight, EVERYTHING feels better... and my period is, well, MORE regular if you will. It still doesn't come at the same time every month.

I'm just hoping that when I get around my goal weight my body will be happier with the way I treat it, and want to treat me better too :P

Have you been to an Endocrinologist? They could do tests to let you know if its hormonal or not.
    Cheers!

It is possible you could have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). When I was trying to get pregnant, I was like that. The doc had me take Metformin and go on a diet. I lost 10lbs and my period returned to fairly normal cycles. I'm overweight now, and my cycle is wacky some months. At this point in life, I could care less about the cycles since we are finished having children. Since I have been losing weight again, my period has come fairly evenly the last two months.

I have PCOS and don't get mine either. I think I do cycle monthly, though, just not a full cycle resulting in a period. I am 31. Hopefully you will get some answers. :) I, too, was told that losing weight would be benefical. I will say that I have noticed more "activity" (cramps, minimal bleeding when previously none, etc.) since starting my weight loss journey.

Have you ever been tested for PCOS if you were always the type not to have a period? I didn't get a period until I started taking the pill. Part of not being able to lose weight is because of my PCOS. I just know how much it sucks for me but maybe its not the reason you are having your problem.

    Other symptoms of PCOS are:
Dark skin specially neck, groin and arm pits
    Skin tags
    Trouble getting pregnant
    Sever Acne
    Hair thinning or loss

    Hey there!
NO :(... I had them for 4 years following that. I went from having a yeast infection almost always... to having one once every two weeks... down to once a month and now I haven't had one in almost a year. It took a while to learn that the antibiotics they give you to get rid of them... CAUSE THEM. I am not taking a prodcut by Planetary Herbals called "Candida Digest" and I take probiotics regularly. Food was huge... I basically lived off of cucumber and lettuce for a long time because dairy, wheat, sugar... all contribute... since carbs turn into sugar... and the yeast infection thrives and grows off sugar.

    Thanks so much girls!

Currently I don't have health coverage... so seeing a doctor again is out of the question.

I have started taking vitex, which is a herb that helps the hormone balance. I have cramping and all the other period emotional feelings, just no period as one of you said.

They said I didn't have PCOS, but who knows.
Some like not having a period... but I believe it's a healthy natural process. Without it... there are so many stories where girls develope cancer due to the build up of the lining ... so, I'm hoping the weight loss will get me back on track!

Again thanks so much for your inputs!!!!
