I don't use any kind of yogurt maker or kit... you can do it with stuff you already have (maybe plus some new canning jars to put the yogurt in, if you don't have any).
Here's the site I used - it's VERY thorough and she has refined her suggestions. I encourage you to read through all of it.

The first time or two may take a little while, since you're learning something new, but after that you'll have the hang of it and it'll be super easy.0 -
I saw this link posted around here last month:
http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/10/you-can-make-yogurt-in-your-crockpot.html
I haven't had a chance to make it -- and maybe I'll get around to it next week, when I have some spare time -- but I definitely plan to play around with home-made yogurt!
If you try any of these links that folks have given here, would you mind sharing your experiences afterward, in this thread?
Thanks!0 -

I have used the method in the link I posted. (http://www.kitchenstewardship.com/2009/04/13/monday-mission-homemade-yogurt-the-easy-way/ ) It worked the 1st time - not too difficult. The first time I did it, it seemed like a lot of work because I was doing it for the first time, but after that it wasn't so bad. It really doesn't take that much time/effort - most of the yogurt making is simply letting it incubate.
I've made it with whole milk and with 1% - both times worked okay. I use high-quality yogurt with multiple strains of bacteria as my starter (such as some of the more expensive greek yogurt brands).
I'm interested in trying the crockpot method, though!0 -
Bump! Can't wait to try making my own yogurt!0

thanks so much everyone!0 -
I use a Kenwood Yogurt Maker YM100 It makes a little over a liter. I use one liter of whole milk & one jar full of yogurt as a starter.
