Medication v weight loss

Options
Here is my dilemma, I am at my wits end with this. Before I joined mfp. I was taking a drug called pizotifen to keep the very severe migraines I regular suffer, under control. It worked really, really well, and I very rarely suffered from a migraine more than about once every two weeks. However a side effect of the pizotifen is that it makes you very prone to weight gain, which is nearly impossible to shift, and because of the weight gain, I joined mfp, and stopped taking the medication. I am now suffering very severe migraines every day, and am in agony from the pain, and my life is really miserable. I am torn between going back on the pizotifen and resigning myself to being fat, or staying off it in order to try and lose weight, but have severe migraines. Any advice anyone?

As a fellow migrainer (yes we have a title :wink) there is no WAY I would suffer each day with that pain. Can you speak with the doc for other meds or maybe reduce the mg of what you where taking?

Gosh-I am so sorry for you. I went to a pain specialist and had a nerve block shot which stopped mine (for now, who knows when they will return, and we KNOW they will, don't we!)

Are there any other medications you can take? I too suffer from migraines but they are not as severe as they used to be but I have never had the meds that you have used. If you can, I say go back to your Doctor and see if there is a different medication you can take. I wish you well.

Thanks to everyone who replied - I have made an appointment to see my Doctor tomorrow morning, and see what, if any, my options are.

I also suffer from bad migraines....I, like you, need medication to keep them under control. It took me a long time to find the right meds, but the one I am on now works great for me!

Good luck! I am sure you can find something to help you! It just may take awhile!
