If you eat a healthy diet and exercise, diabetics CAN reduce your blood glucose levels!!! Someone really should share this information with my doctor. OK so maybe it isn't new....or real medical research but I'm so excited because in the month of February my blood sugar levels only went over 110 a total of two times (hmmm, maybe because I forgot to take my Metformin on those days???).

I don't mean to poke fun at diabetes (it is certainly no laughing matter) but for the first time since I was diagnosed with diabetes I am actually excited to have my A1C tested later this month. I hope other people with diabetes are seeing the same great results!

Cathy

Cathy, Don't fool around with the Metformin! Very important for pancreas. Also even after eating, your blood glucose levels not over 110?
Levels can be 80-120 before meals
<180 after 2 hrs of eating
    100-140 before bed
Suggest reading up on Diabetis[google, info from Doctor, & liabrary]

Never can have too much info. As you know its the silent killer! Be sure to "try" to keep blood levels in the range posted. Eat carbs & protein together, keep sugars, starches,& carbs under control.
    Congrats on MFP! Good luck...

Read up on "Low Glycemic foods"....Google, will get list of foods! Lower the number the better off you are.[I PRINTED & PUT ON FRIG!]

Yes, Ma'am. Diabetes type 2 can be banished with proper diet. I am on a wonderful program that keeps my blood sugar level all day long by eating 6 small meals every day and each having the proper balance of carbs and protein. Many diabetics on this plan go off all meds and insulin. I was pre diabetic when I started but I now show no signs, as well I am off my BP meds and my knee arthritis is barely noticeable. Amazing!

I, too, was recently diagnosed with diabetes. Right now it can be controled by diet and exercise, which I'm doing well at. I bought a glucose meter about a week ago, and the highest by glucose level has been (after eating) is 130. It seems to be maintain between 80-113, which is very good. Also, I just lost 13 pounds, so I know the weight part plays a big roll in diabetes.

I've heard that too! And the guy on the nutrisystem commercials for nutrisystem D says he lowered his :) heheh....not the best source, but I've actually, seriously, heard of that happening

Good luck and keep testing! You'll have to keep us informed...you can do your own experiment! :)

What is this A1C you're mentioning? I'm filling out my profile and they asked for my HB1AC. I have my blood results but didn't see this listed. I do have Comprehensive Metabolic (including glucose) and Lipid Profiles. I'm trying to fill out my profile and didn't know how to answer the HB1AC question.

    Thanks, Bernie

    Sandra - Thanks!

Champion - I really do take it seriously. I have "take medications" pop up on my calendar through the week but got out of the house two Saturdays and forgot to take meds. I now carry a bottle of Metformin and my seizure meds in my purse just in case that happens. My husband is type 1 diabetic and has many of those side effects of diabetes including heart problems and kidney disease. My blood tests were all before meals and bedtime but I should probably be testing 2 hours after meals too. Thanks for the suggestion.

Librarygirl - I just accepted your friend request. Thanks for sending it!

Luv2ash - Thanks for the motivation to start the program of 5-6 small meals a day. I know that is what I should be doing but afraid of going "overboard". It is a terrible thing to be afraid of food but I'm working on it.

Beth - great news!! Keep up the good work!

Wriglucy - I will take my inspiration where I can get it, even if I don't ever plan to use Nutrisystem :)

Bernie - It is Hemoglobin A!C and shows the doctor what your average blood sugar counts have been in your blood for the past 2-3 months. My doctor would like to see mine around 6 and last time I had it tested it was 7.2.

cv0409 - Thanks! I guess they didn't run that test. I don't see anything that seems to match up. My fasting glucose was 80 and I'm lucky that I've never even been pre-diabetic.
