A few of my friends are taking these pills and are having pretty good results. I am trying to work out and eat right andI find myself getting frustrated because the weight is not coming off like I think it should. What are your thoughts on diet pills?

Been there, done that. You will lose weight with those pills. They suppress your appetite tremendously. The problem is, as soon as you stop taking them, you will gain the weight back. What happens is you don't actually learn to eat right and watch your portions while taking the pill (some days I wouldn't eat) so once you stop taking the pills, you continue your old habits but now you are hungry!
I took them in '98 when I was 190lbs. I lost 40 lbs in 4 months. I regained 20 quickly as soon as I stopped taking them. Then for years, every time I wanted to lose 10 lbs, I'd get a new prescription. I think if you have a lot of weight to lose, it is helpful for a jumpstart but be cautious that they came become addictive.0 -
If you utilize them to help establish new eating habits then they can have great results but if not then I agree with Foxxybrown in reference to the weight returning. Keep your head up Rome wasnt built in a day you will get there : )0

I am currently taking them for the past 3 weeks and have lost 3lbs I have noticed a decreased in appetite. I have been working out a lot so I don't know if I have gained muscle mass and that is why I haven't seen the weight loss.0

Phentermine decreases appetite...the website said it is known as the "anoretic" drug.....here's the whole paragraph.....
Phendimetrazine is a sympathomimetic amine and is similar to an amphetamine. It is known as an "anorectic" or "anorexigenic" drug. Phendimetrazine works by stimulating the central nervous system, which increases your heart rate and blood pressure and decreases your appetite.0 -
I had a close friend take these, and she lost over 80lbs in a little less than a year. She looks amazing! She stopped taking them a litttle over 6 months ago, and has not put one pound back on. Her success comes from learning how to control her portions, and really REALLY taking in the water. She looks and feels great, but like I said, it was the pills ALONG with the lifestyle change.0

You should be very careful with these types of magic pills. I've tried so many and nothing works. In all honesty, I lost the most weight when I was eating a clean diet and working out, and ensuring I drank atleast 8 glasses of water a day.
The problem with these drugs is if you decrease your appetite, your slowing down your metabolism. Also, When your glucose levels are low, you become hungry. One way to increase the glucose levels is to eat food. Diet pills increases your glucose levels artificially by stimulating the production of epinephrine (adrenaline) in your which then mobilizes your stored glucose. In the short term, you lose weight. Nevertheless, you have just artificially increased your glucose levels, so your body only thinks it is full. Overtime a couple of things begin to happen. 1) Your cells adapt to the effects of the stimulate, hence, your body does not mobilize as much glucose. 2) Also, your body begins to depend on the diet pills to keep the glucose levels stable. In other words, overtime when you take diet pills, your glucose levels are now what was normal a while back when you first start. Additionally, your glucose levels drop below normal when you are not taking the diet pills. Therefore, unless you continue to increase the does (which at a point becomes dangerous), you actually begin to become hungrier when it wears off then you were before you started.
I used to take ADD medication because I had problems concentrating. I wouldn't eat all day, so you'd think I'd lose weight. In the end I became more tired and gained so much weight because I would get extremely hungry when I wasn't on the meds...these are the same as diet pills. They artifically turn off hunger, but really, your body needs food and nutrients to keep working. Eat small 100 calories snacks in between your meals. Trust me...stay aways from these drugs. Anything that is a chemical is making your body work harder to get rid of it too, and taking away efforts from weight loss. The best way to keep the weight off is to work hard and exercise and eat right!0 -
In my opinion it's just a quick fix like others have said you will lose the weight but as soon as you stop them you gain it back I also used them about 3 years ago I lost almost 20 pounds but gain 15 of it back after I stopped taking them and it was the Phentermine shortly after that I found this site and lost the rest of the weight I NEEDED to lose. If you stick with watching your calories and working out you should be able to lose the weight if may take awhile but it can be accomplished.
GOOD LUCK!!!!0
