I was always told you can do whatever your body is used to while you are pregnant. I wouldn't start training for a marathon after finding out, but there is no harm in taking care of yourself. I have had friends that ran and maintained their normal routines while prego, it is completely fine.
Congrats on the baby0 -
They told me if I was doing it before I should be fine to keep doing it for awhile...I however didn't run to much..but I did walk a lot and walked fast on the treadmill! Just watch your heart rate and maybe even get a monitor!! Keep it up and stick with it! CONGRATS0

Yes, If you were doing it before then keep on doing it. Your body will tell you when to stop! Good luck and Congrats!0

Several friends of mine continued to run during their pregnancies with the complete support of their doctors and midwifes.
Some thought they would carry on running but then didn't feel like it, or didn't feel comfortable. Some carried on til they were 7 months gone!
The only thing that is not advised is that you start to run during pregnancy when you're a newbie, but with experienced runners it's not usually a problem for them to carry on at a lower training volume and pace.
Listen to your body and see how it goes. Congratulations. :flowerforyou:0 -
^ What she said. Don't increase your work out but especially in the early months maintain what your were doing. As you know when your body starts changing drastically you may not feel up to a run but you can still do lots of exercises and enjoy walking.0

Here is some a site or two that may help you:

The basic thing is to not get too overheated as it can damage the baby. Light jogging I think would be ok. However, I dont know you, your history or your physical condition. Talk to your doctor. He/she may want to increase visits to check and make sure things are still ok as you jog.0 -
You should definitely talk with your doc first but if you already are a runner then as already said, you should be fine with light run/jog.0

Congratulations on your pregnancy! :flowerforyou:
Most Dr.'s and pregnancy fitness sources will tell you that you can continue working out at the pace that you are used to. Just pay close attention to your body - if you are feeling winded, you may need to back off a little, if you are feeling cramps/pain, you may want to stop running altogether and switch to something lower impact.
I'd like to invite you to join the pregnancy thread here on MFP! Lots of wonderful ladies, newbies and "seasoned veterans", that can provide you with lots of information and support.

Yes you can still run like everyone is saying, if you were already running before. But as the pregnancy progresses it may get harder/more uncomfortable.
I was and am a runner but at 7 months I am now walking. I dont have a flat terrain where I live and those large hills get me to winded running....I get winded just walking them now. So really listen to your body and remeber try not to push it to hard.
Also try less stressful indoor workouts or something like as well for an option.
Congratulations

Please talk with your doctor first.
I was running before I got pregnant and continued after I found at I was pregnant. At my first ultrasound, the US tech found two very dense cysts on each ovary. I was told to immediately stop running because it could cause torsion of the ovary which could actually cause me to miscarry.
Not trying to be the debbie downer or anything....I just had NO clue that anything like that was going on in my body. I never had ANY symptoms of cysts whatsoever.0 -
Thanks Everyone! Believe me-I did talk to the doctor They said as long as I am comfortable! I ran a marathon in November, I love running...I haven't had much energy since I found out...I was doing Insanity and still running but got wicked tired and felt ill...now that my nausea is gone, I have been trying to do pliates and keep up running a few days a week-only about 2.5 miles each time. I don't run as fast as I was-not that I was real fast anyway!
I am going to try to run the whole time, I was thinking about trying for a half about 2 months post, but i am not sure seeing i most likely will have a c-section.
How long did it take everyone after baby to pick up running again?0 -
I ran a 5k when my baby was 3 months old. However, I've just now started running back on a consistent basis (he's 7 months old). This was my first baby and I definitely have had to "adjust".0
