I have averaged a 1000 calorie deficit per day for the last 14 days. I've lost only 2lbs. I have entered everything I eat and when entering food I overestimate and when entering my calories burned working out I underestimate (I subtract 10-15% from what the elliptical machine says. for 440 i'd enter 400 calories burned for example). On top of that I do weight training. I lift heavy 5 sets of 6-8 reps each. I don't count calories for that at all.

I would have lost at least 4lbs if not more. Am I missing some part of the equation? Thanks a lot for helping.

Well, if you're new to exercise and then suddenly doing a lot of it, your body could be holding on to the weight for dear life. You could try either increasing your calories or decreasing your exercise.

I wonder if you are eating enough? You might try cutting the deficit in half for a week or two and see if it helps. And make sure you are drinking your water, every day, no exceptions.

My guess would be that your not eating enough. When I have too big a deficite I don't loose. Because you've not eaten enough the body thinks that there may be lean times ahead and starts to hang on to calories and stores them as fat just incase of famine.

2lb in two weeks is good :D Just what you should be aiming for.

thanks for the replies. I am guilty of eating too little early on when I was ultra motivated. I have stabled out around 1300 calorie intake for the last week. I had few days where I ate 800 calories because the night before had to eat at a birthday party (2400 calories). My last weeks has been stable and consistent. I guess I'll give it few more weeks before whining.

Also guilty of not enough water. My stomach was just not used to being distended much all the time. Not used to frequent bathroom trips either. I have upped my water intake from 3-4 glasses to 6-8 and hope to hit ten regularly. According to a tool I found, for my height and weight I should aim for 16 on days I workout (6 days a week). so that will take some time.

EDIT: my bmr*1.25 = 2300 calories, so I see 1300 as a safe number, which is above 1200.
  • Musel ways more than fat.
  • You are trying too hard. Relax.

    1. Calm down.
    2. Eat more (but reduce carbs, sodium, empty calories).
    3. Hydrate well.
    4. *Be patient*

Time and a consistent calorie deficit combined are the magic bullet. The formula is foolproof but you can't really speed it up.
