Soooo, for a sweet, but somewhat healthy desert after lunch at work, I brought trail mix. I put it into a baggie and discarded the original packaging. Well when I look at ANY of the calories for trail mix.....IT IS CRAZY!!!! Help? I have the kind with raisins, nuts, and m&ms...suggestions?

Put it together yourself. I know it is a bit of a pain, but so much better. I buy dried cranberries, raisens, mini chocolate chips, Rice Chex, cheerios... etc. Big bowl, toss with hands, put in lots of small baggies, tada!0

Yes it is healthy, but nuts (not to mention M&Ms) are very calorie dense. So are dried fruits for that matter. One of my pet peeves is the health shows that encourage eating nuts, but don't warn people how many calories they contain. Yes, nuts contain many healthy fats which you need, but none of us need as many nuts as we normally eat.0

try this
Homemade Trail mix
1/2 ounce(s) whole shelled (unpeeled) almonds
1/4 ounce(s) unsalted dry-roasted peanuts
1/4 ounce(s) dried cranberries
1 tablespoon(s) chopped pitted dates
1 1/2 teaspoon(s) chocolate chips
More cost effective on the purse if you buy all these items and make your own bags of mix0 -

its 160 calories per 1/4 cup.

all in all not too bad as long as i dont have more than 1/4 cup once in a while.0 -

I love this stuff (and the price is right) but I can't stop with 1/4 cup. I keep going back for another handful and another handful. :grumble:0
