We've decided to make sure we lose 5lbs this week. FTR, our week starts Monday and weigh-in is Sunday mornings. Having lost 2 lbs / week most weeks, I got to thinking if I just cranked out some cardio and weight training we could bump that up to bigger numbers.
Anyone else ??

It's worth a try. I would like a chance to push myself. Is it starting This past monday?0

This is not healthy. MFP recommends no more than 2lbs/week, but suggest 1lb is the safest.0

Good luck but you could be setting yourself up for disappointment. Not healthy (agreeing with erickirb)0

I agree also. Sounds pretty unhealthy to me.0

I'd have to agree with that assessment. 5 lbs is really high to loose in one week.
If I'm not botching the math (I'm new at this) its 3500 calorie deficit to loose one lb, so that by 5 lbs would mean you need a 17,500 cal deficit in a week. Which translates to this:
1 lb a week is a deficit of 500 calories. 5lbs a week is a deficit of _2,500 calories per day_.0 -
Dream on, only doable if your are really obese or will work in the very short term and then your metabolism will be messed up. If you can manage 2 pounds a week consistently, it is a miracle.0

Wow! A lot of people really don't like the idea!
It just so happens I am obese. At 200+ lbs and only 5'7" I'm no where close to my goal weight. 2lbs per week on diet alone doesn't seem to be a stretch as I've done it every week since 1st week of January. I thought cranking out some excercise would easily double my progress. You've seen it for years on Biggest Loser.
Maybe I'm just impatient.0 -
I think its doable if you are not close to your goal weight, which he isnt and neither am I. I have lost 2 lbs just on diet and started to hit the gym hard on monday so I think a 5 is possible... Push hard but safe and I know you can do it...0
