Hi everyone :)

The problem is I'm fine with my upper body but my thighs and calves are the problem. They are the reasons I want to lose weight. I really don't want to lose much weight from on top and I know you can't spot reduce but if there are any exercises or any tricks that help a little bit would be nice to know about.

Thanks :)

I have had trouble with my thighs for a while too, still do, but they are getting better! I suggest lots of cardio. Running is the best, but I started out doing the elliptical and stair master/Stair Stepper. Now i usually do the Arc Trainer machine (also known as the gazelle) on a high incline and high resistance as well as run. My problem has always seemed to be the back of my thighs, and running works that the best! Plus different weight machines like the seated leg curl, leg press and hip abductor are all geared towards helping your thighs. Lunges are great too, so are squats. I like to stand with my feet a little more than shoulder width apart with my feet turned out and squat down to a 90 degree angle and then come back up. Hope that helps!

Squats and Linges with the CORRCT fprm! Using your own body weight. Plyo workorks again using your own body weight. Don't get the machines! Use what you have

My exact problem areas! What helped me was I started running. And if that seems too daunting, try the "Couch to 5K" program and work your way up. I went from not being able to run for 60 seconds to now running 60 minutes. And it really thinned out my legs without bulking them up.

I also like stiff-legged deadlifts and balance ball glute raises with hamstring curls in toning the glute/hamstring area. :) Another great all-over leg toner: plyometrics! Squat jumps (regular, sumo and close-legged), jumping lunges (switching lunges with each jump or incorporating a step), box jumps, squat thrusts, burpees (aka squat thrusts with a jump when standing)...all will give you an awesome burn and work your legs, plus give you some anaerobic cardio thrown in there! :)
  • Try to find an aerobic routine that concentrates on the lower body, like lunges, squats, marching on the spot and quite a few others. I have a problems in that area also and since doing a lower body aerobic routine have started to reduce my bottom, thighs and calfs.

I've been doing jumping squats, static lunges and pendulum lunges on the 30 day shred and have managed to lose an inch off each thigh :) tae bo was really good aswell. Although this being said, I don't think you can lose fat in particular places it's just where your body decides to take it!

Squats, lunges(both side to side and front and back). and calf raises. (skipping rope is great for your legs.

Spinning, squats and lunges have worked for me. After a few months of that I can now fit into skinny jeans.

Where can I find the "Couch to 5K" program? I can easily walk a 5-10k, but running or jogging...HA! I would love to do that! My thighs are my issue too. I weigh 164.5 (at 5'7", that's the very top end of the recommended weight), I actually carry it fairly well, but the issue is that 130 lbs is between my knees and a@$.

    Thanks for the info!
