I have always had dry skin. My grandmother used to tell me to use veggie or olive oil.
Well I finally tried it. I used about a 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil, and my hands absorbed it faster than my best lotion! Imagine that.

I know people who will put a few drops of oil in their favorite lotions.
  • lotion is only meant to keep in the moisture that you already have in your skin and body.

Best time to apply it is after the shower or after your wash your hands and when your skin is still slightly wet.

I like using oil too, but if I don't wash my hands well enough after application and then touch my hair my hair looks really oily.

I've used almond oil for years!
Extremely light, no scent, and doesn't clog pores or cause breakouts on sensitive skin like mine. It's a little pricey for a cooking product, but cheap when compared to cosmetics and lotions!

I get it at the mediterranean or indian market--along with my olive oil /goat milk soap! Decadently wonderful for the skin and CHEAP!

I have almost no moisture in my hands, they usually feel as dry as paper even 30 minutes after putting on lotion! But this seems to work.

I like to shave with baby oil, it helps protect my legs against razor burn. And even though i 'wash' it off, it makes my skin suppperrr soft. Then when i get out of the shower i put on lotion. Victoria's Secret has really good lotion (smells nice too lol).

Grape seed oil is also really good.

Most commercial lotions contain petrolium and mineral oil which just sits on top of your skin and actually ages you! Check out your local health food store and youll see they have ones with out these ingredients they absorb waaay better!

Interesting thread. Glad I peeked in. My hands get so dry they crack on the corners of my fingertips. I've tried so many different lotions but none of them seem to keep my fingers from cracking. I'll have to try the oil. Thanks for posting this tip.

I sometimes use sea salt and olive or sunflower oil mixed as a hand scrub. Rinse off under warm water and it makes your hands lovely and soft.

Also, warm olive oil massaged into the scalp is good for treating dandruff. use a little and massage in well then wrap your hair in a towel for around half an hour. Then shampoo as normal (maybe you will need a little more than usual).

I also occasionally use baby oil on my skin before drying.

for super soft skin after a shower, apply oil (let it absorb a bit), then apply your favorite lotion!

When using olive oil, get the first run cold press EVO (the darker green the better). The regular EVO gets a little sticky and thick feeling. It can also be used in your hair as a pre color or perm conditioner. Use the oil a day or two before the color or perm though to make sure it is washed out.
