I am familiar with p90x, not so much with Insanity. I am looking for a new workout. I am a runner, usually run 6 days per week and do weights 3-4 days per week, but I would like to try something new.
Does anyone have an opinion on what they like better Insanity vs. p90x, and/or why you chose one over the other???
Any recommendations welcome!!!
Thanks!!

They really are not comparable. Insanity is mostly cardiovascular High Intensity Training. The videos are about half as long. There isn't much weight training with Insanity. I have done both and can tell you that Insanity is just that Insanity. P90X doesn't even come close to the intensity. PlyoX would be a warm-up to begin Insanity. This is all my opinion - but Insanity is TOUGH!0

P90X is close to what you are doing now, cardio and weights. I would venture to say the weight training aspect is going to be more intense than what you are doing now.
Insanity is Cardio and the hardest there is. Not to be taken lightly. If you aren't completely wiped out by the end you didn't push hard enough. If you have to constantly take break while doing it you're not ready for it.
Personally I wouldn't do Insanity only, as I feel it would just burn too much muscle. I'm on round 4 of P90x and have tremendous results. I work in an Insanity workout once a week in place of the P90X cardio.
Depends upon your goals, and what you want.

Insanity is amazing! I have both Insanity and P90x. The strength training p90x videos require extra equipment. I think the Insanity videos are much more challenging and you still build muscle. They are also a lot more fun, and allow you to really increase your endurance. Good luck!0

Thanks for the input!! I would love to get both, but I cant afford it, so I am trying to decide where to spend the money!!! I wish there was something that was a mixture of both!!! Leaning towards the insanity right now....decisions decisions0

I've done two rounds of P90X and one round of Insanity. Currently doing a hybrid of P90x and Insanity.
I too like to run and I find that I actually prefer to run for my cardio versus doing the Insanity program. The P90X will give you your strength training (which you also like to to do) but Insanity alone will not give you that. There are push ups etc in Insanity but I did notice that my strength (and push up ability) declined after having been away from P90x for the 60 days that I was doing Insanity.
Congrats on completing the Disney marathon. I'm going to do the Disney Princess 1/2 marathon in February 2012.0 -
I just finished P90X and started Insanity.
I'm training for a 1/2 marathon and have completed one, pre-P90X. With P90X, I've taken 1:30MPM off my 10K time. I'm really pleased with that. I didn't lose any weight but lost a size, I was already within my healthy range to start with.
I'm looking forward to seeing my Insanity results. But it really depends on what you are looking for. I've continued to do P90X strength routines.
My complaints with Insanity so far is that I wish the workouts were longer, with a little more upper body work. I still do another 20 minutes of exercise when I finish Insanity to get a full hour in. If I "thought" I was in fairly good shape before beginning Insanity, I realized I was kidding myself.
As a runner, I'd probably pick Insanity, Shaun T knows works on speed drills a lot, which is what I'm hoping to gain by Insanity.0 -
thanks for the info. I honestly and not sure what I am looking for. I seem to have hit a plateau for the past couple months and I thought if I changed up my workout routine, I would drop the last 10 pounds. I like what I know of p90x, but I really want something with cardio. So now I am leaning more towards the insanity....thanks again!!0

I have done both also and can tell you that I prefer Insanity but still do P90X workouts at times. The reason that I prefer Insanity is because of the Intensity of the cardio that is in it. I like P90X though because of the weight work that is involved (I work muscles I didn't even know I had!). Together they are great but totally different. I started with P90X but didn't lose a lot of weight but lost inches. With Insanity the fat melted off just like hot candle wax (like he says). I also noticed with Insanity that I went from running a 5K in about 37 minutes to 22 minutes0

ok. seeing how much the insanity is improving running times has sold me. I just purchased it!!! Cant wait till it gets here!!! For those of you that run, how did you incorporate running into the program?? How many days per week did you do insanity vs. running??0
