Running in Chacos?

I have a pair of Chacos for hiking and walking because they have good support. I do not have a pair of tennis shoes, because any pair that has good support I feel like my foot is falling out! Or if I put one in there it feels the same. Like my foot is to high in the shoe or something...If I run or walk without support my feet hurt REALLY bad. I don't have very much money to get a good pair of shoes...So would running in my Chacos be ok? My feet are secure and feel fine when I walk in them.
What I want to do would be - Walk for a song, run for 30 seconds, walk for a song, run for 30 seconds....Then each time increase the running time and lower the walking time.

There's a woman who runs in Keen walking sandals at my gym, she seems to manage just fine. I'd just be careful you don't trip if you have the Chaco's that are very open at the toes.0
