I have a big bag of grits that was given to me by a neighbor.

Any healthy recipes for them? Or just tasty ones that would be safe in small portions?

    i love grits..
guess I could not bee a true Ga peach if i didnt..

in moderation they can be ok. I eat a packet of grits every once in a while and its only 100 cals with one egg is only 170 cals

there are some desserts you can use to make with grits like that , and when cooked a certain way u can make it like polenta

You didn't say what kind. Corn? White?

I make corn grits all the time. I reduce the amount of water by one cup, and use unsweetened amond milk instead to add a bit of richness to them. I also add some nutritional yeast for "cheesiness" w/o the cals and fat. You can cook them to your desired consistency...I like mine really thick, not quite to the polenta stage, but really close.

I usually saute some onions, spinach and garlic in EVOO, and stir that into the grits. You can add pretty much any vegetable you want, however much you want. That's all a personal preference. But whatever you do, cook them seperatey and add them after the grits are done.

Sorry, yes corn. I think they are white? Since I knew I wouldn't use them right away, I put them in a ziploc in the freezer, so I don't have the original packaging.

I think grits are the same thing as polenta. I eat polenta all the time and it's only 130 cals per 1/4 cup dry, which makes a good amount when cooked. It's really yummy mixed with a runny egg, or mixed veggies, or chunks of light sausage. There's tons of stuff! You could google it and probably find a lot, too! Good luck! Gotta love free stuff...
