Just got myself a trainer

Went to the gym for the first time in a LONG time. My new trainer had me work my chest, arms, and legs mostly... or at least that's what's sore today... Anyway, my legs hurt so bad, I can barely walk, and I wince every time I walk up or down stairs. What can I do to ease the pain?

Would Ibuprophen be enough or do I need to break out the heating pad? (Ice pack???)

someone help plz... My dog wants to go for a walk, and I simply can not go down 3 flights of stairs again.

    Ibuprophen will help. as will thenagging voice in your head that tells you it is worth it!


    I had a personal trainer a long time ago and it was worth every penny. He told me, "you will miss the day you don't get sore anymore" and I knew it was true. i used to strength train and there is a certain feeling of.... accomplishment that comes with the soreness.


    Embrace the pain, it is worth it in the end. :)

    the leg pain never goes away after a hard leg day..... the ibuprofen and heat will help, as will stretching and keep moving :) Did your trainer have you do squats out of curiousity? If you have the trainer, have someone teach you to do them correctly as they are a great exercise/muscle gainer

    Yikes! I don't think I've ever experienced such soreness after a workout! When I have been really sore though, I found it best that the more I moved the muscles in normal everyday actvities, the better overall my sore mucles "healed." But I guess from personal experience I've found that not moving makes it worse. :/ I don't know about taking anything for pain. Hang in there! It'll get better :)

    We did squats at the very end. I only had a 15 lb weight, and I did about 30 or them, in intervals of 10.

    We went over the proper form over and over again. I watched myself in the mirrors, and it seemed like I was doing them ok.

    I know this feeling! Unfortunately, ibuprofen and some light stretching may be your only relief for the next couple of days until the muscles repair themselves. Ice packs wouldn't be a bad thing to keep the swelling down but probably aren't going to give the help you'd expect. Time is the best medicine here and, if you can make it down the stairs, the walk with the dog should make the walk back up the stairs a little bit easier.

    the same thing happend to me the first time I met with my trainer. I literally was crawling around my apartment for a few days. Just take it easy, hydrate, eat bananas, and try your best to keep moving. I know its hard but it helps your legs from staying stiff. After this week of pain, it will get much easier.

    Buy a nice big box of EPSOM SALTS.

    Run yourself a nice warm bath.

    Dissolve ONE CUP of the EPSOM SALTS (stir with a WOODEN SPOON...not your hands until dissolved).

    Soak in the bath for 20 minutes.

    Removes a lot of the soreness from the muscles.

    TIP: do NOT store the box of epsom salts in the bathroom (it will harden up due to the moisture from the bath or shower. Don't store in the laundry area either for the same reason.

    i soak in epsom salt bath mix too

    and have an electric blanket

    last week my legs were dying, went to get a sports massage. ya that was so sore. he found my tender areas and rammed right into them. i was making faces in the pillow.

    Girl....Go to Wal Mart and look by the icy hot stuff...at our store this stuff is on the bottom shelf, it's a small orange colored jar of this stuff call Tiger Balm ........awesome stuff.....It dose have a icy hot type smell to it, but it's Way worth it!

    You know what's funny is sitting here with the hot laptop on my legs makes them feel a lot better. I'll make a trip to the store tomorrow for bath salts, bananas, and something with protein.

    I've been just suck it up without anything. Take rest days (one or two, or even three) whatever my body need to easy up the soreness. Once passed that, I feel more fit and stronger, and having hard time to get sore like that any more. It's all good!

    Protein post workout is going to help with muscle recovery. You might want to get some whey protein powder and have 1 scoop post workout. Also, walking that dog will actually help with the soreness! It's going to help get the oxygen and blood flowing and help with that lactic acid build-up!

    Edit to add:
    Some soreness after workouts is good. But, it wont be so bad in a few weeks when your body gets used to you working those muscles! It's just so extreme right now because it's been so long since you've worked out. Hang in there!
