HELP!!
I'm visiting my parents and although I was supposed to be treating them to go out, they have decided they want to stay in and have a chinese take-away with me....except I'm dieting!!!!!!!!

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can have that's not going to ruin my day completely....I have 750 calories left.

No rice, pasta, noodles, or fried to start with. I know that the place here makes me a pretty mean and lean chicken and vegtables stir fried with no msg added.

Hot and sour soup, beef with broccoli, no, or very little rice and no fried. I love Chinese and we have it every other week or so. When I get it, I try to fill up on soup, and then eat a little of the rest, with no rice, and no fried foods :). I always make sure to drink extra water too - lots of sodium in Chinese but it's so good :)
  • easy brown rice.. and chicken and brocolli--- wont be more than 800 cals.

See if you can get steamed rice (or make your own if you have some at home) and maybe just get steamed veggies and chicken. Ask for no sauce if possible. Avoid the egg rolls, although I never can!

750 cals is a lot! You can have chinese! I think chicken and broccoli is like 300 cals for a cup. Look in the database for things you would be interested in. Like another poster said, avoid fried stuff. Rice doesn't have to be off limits, just keep it to a lesser amount than they give you.

I'm not suggesting this because of dieting reasons, but I genuinely love the steamed chicken and veggies. A lil soy sauce and I'm happy. Or, ask for a lil of the regular sauce on the side and dip that way to get less sugary sauce.

    Oh how I love chinese!

I had a Chinese not too long ago, and for 750 calories it can be done! I got a chicken egg foo yung, which according the MFP database is 250 calories per patty, and a portion of boiled rice (MFP says 203 calories for 150g). I also had a portion of sweet and sour sauce which wasn't very much either (MFP has many different values for it, just depends what fits the most. But definitely under 200 calories for a standard chinese takeaway portion).

It was really tasty, and only ranged from 460-600ish calories! If you want to check things before hand, just go into your MFP diary and do a search for 'Chinese Food' and it comes up with a good list
  • Maybe you should enjoy every bite and the moment with your company...Just count up your calories and try to stay close to your daily goal. That is the beauty of this program, you can actually have a life, and stop saying the word, "diet". Yesterday, I had a Costco hotdog and enjoyed every single mouthfull. I just stayed under my daily goal. Just some ideas, may not work for you!
  • I totally agree with you, a newbie of just a few days, but I love it!

The last time I had chinese, I got chicken and broccoli. I asked for the sauce on the side and then just dipped it. It was reallly good and for 2 cups i think its 300 calories. You have plenty of calories left to enjoy yourself , just drink plenty of water for the sodium (:
