Hi, all. I've just started my weight loss journey and have a lot of weight to lose. I was wondering if someone could point in that direction of what type of exercise routine to do. I've typically just been doing 30-45 mins of cardio per day - anything from playing Just Dance on the Wii, to talking to hitting the gym. (typically being in the last week, since that's basically when the journey started)

Can you point in the right direction regarding what type of exercise I should be doing? Should I be adding strength training in this early? If so, what do you do as a beginner?

Thanks in advance.

i think you're doing great. Just keep moving for now. If you weight loss stops, change it up again. Strength training is always good, but don't push yourself. I do cardio every other day and some strength exercises on the odd days, like standing ab workouts from youtube and walking with weights. Keep up the good work! : ) Monica

I would do strength for sure, helps maintain lean muscle as you lose, and the move muscle mass, the more of an everyday calorie burn. (higher BMR)
If you're going to a gym, you might check to see if they have classes for the strength, that will show you form and technique, and how to target certain muscle groups.
As far as cardio, the length is adequate, it all depends on you. If you want something more intense then go for it, if you're content with what you're doing stick with it. If you don't see results, I would try bumping it up :)

At some point you should probably add strength training. Gaining muscle makes weight loss qualitatively superior.
Do not ty to do it all at once. Stick with what you enjoy & leave the rest for later.
  • I've been at his for about 2 months now. The 30 Day Shred video has strength training in it. You just need hand weights and a mat. It really motivated me to get started, as I'm really uncoordinated and clumsy!
