So I'm so freaking stoked... my friend said she'd fly down to Arizona next year if I trained hard enough to be in the Warrior Dash with her!! I was planning on trying for a baby at the beginning of next year, but it can be put off for a few months. I think this will really help my self confidence. I've never wanted to be a runner, and I'll be honest, I think running is stupid when you just run to run. But The whole obstacle course idea, now that's awesome. I really hope I can push myself hard enough to get in shape by next year. I think I can though. I'm going to join a gym in a couple weeks and I will make it a REQUIREMENT to go at least 4 times a week and do home stuff here on the spare days.

My training is going to be so grueling... I am so overweight and out of shape. But to be honest, I've never wanted to accomplish something fitness wise before until now. My mom is not supporting me in this decision and IDK if my boyfriend will either. He might come around though. My mom thinks me trying to train for something like that will leave me seriously injured or dead if I push myself too hard.

I think I can do it though. I really, really want to in order to boost myself confidence.

You are brave! I kept getting facebook ads for the warrior dash (some of my friends are doing it), so I checked it out. Sorry...not gonna pay to climb under barbed wire, and crawl through mud and jump over fire. The only way someone could get me to do that is if I was actually being pursued by some Viking Barbarians...or maybe if there was a pizza at the finish line...

Still, it looks like a lot of fun. You should get some war paint or something to get pumped for it. I don't understand why your mom and bf wouldn't support you in doing this- having something you enjoy, and look forward to is the best motivation there is... Most of the people on the Biggest Loser trained to run a marathon, and most of them were 300+ lbs when they started training. You still have a full year to train, so you can take it slowly so you can build up to the required endurance and strength. You are already losing weight, and I'm sure by next year's event you'll be much trimmer and healthier. That said, maybe if you talked to your doctor about your plan, and got guidance, your mom would feel more comfortable with your choice.

I'll be wishing you luck from my air-conditioned Zumba class. :-)

I would like to add you as a friend, especially to see you work through this amazing goal.

Thank you very much! Yes, I shall add you as a friend right now!

Unfortunately, I do not have insurance, so I have no doctor. I keep getting rejected by insurance plans because of my weight (which is one of the many reasons why I'm trying to lose).

And hey, Zumba's not exactly easy! LOL. I have it for Xbox and It's intense!!

Are you doing this year's or 2012? A group of friends and I are in the 2pm wave for the Arizona Warrior Dash on April 30th. Good luck with your training!
  • Good luck to you!! i'd like also add you as a friend and see your journey! That's an amazing goal.....just be sure to listen to your body and rest when needed. That is seriously my downfall......i tend to push myself over the top because i want it so bad and end up with injuries that could have been easily prevented!
  • Good luck! I'm gonna try to do the one in Kansas City.
At first I heard of the Tough Mudder from someone on here and really wanted to do it but didn't know if I'd ever be in that good of shape (mentally or physically) so I'm gonna try the Warrior Dash. I think it sounds like so much more fun than a plain old 5k or 10k.
Feel free to add me as a friend :)

2012 for sure. I'm soooo out of shape lol. I mean ridiculously so. I just barely started exercising for the first time in, ohhhh, 8 years?? So It's gonna be a bit of a slow start for me.

Thanks!! Like I said above, it's gonna kinda be a slow start for me. I hope my endurance/stamina builds up quickly though. It doesn't help that I have a SLIGHT touch of asthma =/, but I'll push through that lol.

I am starting training tomorrow for the Warrior Dash in MA this coming JUNE!!!
Have been running and just finshed the Beauty and the Beast 5k in Orlando last week so Iam not to worried about the running part but I really have to start working on strength and endurance - so off the the gym for weight training 3-4 times a week, plus my running 4 times a week and then yoga and ab work!! I should be smoking by June!! haha

GOOD luck and it makes it so much easier to push when you have a race already planned!!
  • I'm training for the Warrior Dash in August (Windham, NY) too!

If anyone is interested in doing adventure mud races, there's another one too that sounds interesting- Spartan Race. looks very similar!

Good luck to you on your training! How are you training for it?

    You go!!!

I'm doing it at 9am on June 11th in PA. It's two days after my 39th birthday. :drinker:

The Couch to 5k running plan has been a godsend for me. I've never been a runner, either, and now I enjoy it! It's a great confidence booster. It starts you off slow and easy, and each week as you build endurance, it's another, "Wow! I didn't know I can do that!" moment. I was soooo excited the first time I ran 5 minutes straight, and now I'm up to 40 minutes!

If it makes you feel any better, my husband is convinced I'm going to end up in crutches after the dash. We've watched videos and he keeps saying, "Don't jump into the mud like that. Go slow. Please?!" Granted, I do have a history of clumsiness, but I typically only injure myself doing mundane tasks. When I know I'm doing something dangerous, I'm more careful. I've never cut myself using a power saw, but I've cut myself on a cat food can!

Congrats on your new goal. It's a perfect challenge to work towards!

Thanks everyone! And good luck to all of you training for it! You'll have to tell me how it was.

My mom called me and apologized today. She says she just doesn't want to see me hurt my knees running since I'm overweight. (i haven't even told her what exactly the WD is... she'd probably have a heart attack lol).
