Tired of being "Festively Plump"

Hi,
I'm new to my fitness pal... I'm a journalist, who spends a lot of time socialising (which means drinking and eating). Problem is I always find a reason to celebrate- hence the title "festively plump". :laugh:
As well as wanting to lose 15kg+ to look great for my wedding, I really want to get fit! I've never been good at endurance sports, and always preferred more intellectual/artistic pursuits at school. My goal is to be able to run 10km!
My boyfriend (sport science/medicine background) was raving about the website and suggested I give it a go!
I have tried (many times) to keep a food and exercise diary on paper ... but as soon as you turn the page ur past progress is forgotten, making the task ahead seem more daunting!
This website takes all the hard work out of calorie counting and mapping fitness/weightloss progress! I love that it says: "if you keep doing the same as you did today, you will weigh..." It's a real motivator! Helps you see the light at the end of the tunnel.
So here I am, determined to finally beat my demons... (just as many of you have already)
There are many things in life you can't control- but I can control me (and what I put in my mouth)!
Watch this space!

Welcome! I know exactly where you're coming from - I'm in the same boat. Former journalist, now in marketing, lots of going out and social functions.
But you can do it! I've never been good at sports, either, but now I'm training for my third 10k race in May after deciding a few years ago that I should be able to at least run that far.

Love your description.
I'm not trying to lose weight just eat more sensibly and healthily. But nevertheless I find the process and results of recording what I eat and the exercise I take, most helpful. Also this forum is so positive and supportive. I'm sure you'll enjoy your time with us.

Hi welcome aboard
You have some really good reasons to be successful this time. Getting married, your boyfriend supporting you and your desire for fitness. Try to make some goals that extend past due date based ones for instance to be fit and healthy, to enjoy life, to nurture and respect your body as it should be respected. This way it is less pressure on succeeding because it becomes a change in lifestyle for the rest of your life. I know the feeling of being festively fat and jolly. Alongside the carols and festive music can be heard the jolly song of me stuffing my face with calorie laden festive fare. It doesnt matter its only for christmas/easter/birthday and then Ill stop. The thing was I never did stop I still stuffed it just wasnt christmas cake or easter eggs. Not anymore though I have broken the magic spell food used to put on me and I run I do I still cant believe I do not 10km or marathons yet but I do run most days and Ive never ever been a running person till now. You can do it this site is amazing in helping you stay on track and focussed. The support is next to none. I sincerely wish you all the success on your journey to a better quality of life. Thanks Helen... You totally get the whole "festively plump" thing.... always an excuse.... I'll start my health and fitness goals after my birthday, after my friends hen's party, when I get back from holidays...
