What do you think of treadmill 'peepers'?

I personally enjoy the challenge. When someone peeks at my speed to see how fast I'm going, or my incline, it spurs me on to go harder and faster. I usually will saddle up next to someone who "looks" (yes, I'm judging here) like they will be a challenge and try not to quit running before them.
I will also peek at others too, but I'm sure some people find it offensive. What do you all think? A challenge or rude?

I never look at anyone else's treadmill unless they look at mine. Usually they're men. And I say bring on the challenge. I'm always faster and/or last longer than them, anyway. LOL.0

It's a public gym, it's only human I think to be curious and even competitive. If it motivates you than why not?0

I thought this was going to be a post about the creepy men that pretend to exercise on the bikes behind the treadmills to 'peep' at all the women in running shorts.0
-
It's probably considered rude, but I think everybody does it... and it certainly works both ways. I, for one, try to just keep up my current pace/incline but just straighten up and try to use better form if someone peeks...0

I peep if its a speed I'm trying to achieve.0

I do it all the time I am a peeper....haha I try and be subtle, thanks for letting me know Im not..HAHA!0

I think that is a great way to keep yourself motivated. I am a treadmill peeper and I also will try to out run or just outlast the person next to me. I feel accomplished if I do that!! If someone gets up set its probably a person that won't keep you motivated and you shouldn't be running beside them anyways!!0

Let 'em look! LOL. I find that there are 2 kinds of "peepers"
1. People who need to see that they are doing better than someone else to motivate themselves (snotty peepers, shall we say...)
2. People are genuinely curious. Some people look around trying to watch people who look like they know what they are doing trying to figure out what THEY are supposed to be doing or for new ideas. Especially if you're doing something unusual looking, (adding punches or going backwards, doing treadmill pull-ups) you can definitely expect some curious peepers haha.0 -

Me too, lol! That's funny!0 -
Yes, I do it. LOL0

I never know who is peeping. I usually have my music playing and I am in my own little world when I am working out. If they wanna peep go right ahead. LOL

Haha! This is a big temptation with me! But I only do it on occasion if someone with a great physic is running, just to see how much they're kicking my butt by.0

Ha! Yes, what made me ask this question is when I was just at the gym a little bit ago, I peeked at the girl next to me, who was only walking. I wasn't very subtle about it, or else she was very conscious of people looking because she almost "jumped" when I peeked. She looked at mine, and then within a minute, she was off the treadmill and gone.
I felt really bad about that. But I've never had that response before.0 -
I've never done it. I'm always too focused on getting threw my workout, and I always put a magazine over the numbers on my treadmill coz I use the fat burn incline and seeing how far I've run always makes it feel longer so i just listen to my music and try to focus on something else to make the time go by faster.0

You know, your #2 brings up another good point. My husband is not at all embarrased to walk up right behind someone and copy what they were just doing (like a new weigh routine/workout or something). But I try to remember it for the next time I go. I'm always way to embarrassed to copy a "weight workout" but I'm not embarrased to try to beat the next treadmiller. lol.0 -

Yes!! Its this boxer at my gym...the stuff he does on a treadmill is amazing. Going backwards, sideways, crisscross....I'm always staring while trying not to get caught lol0 -

I don't "peep" but I'll be damned if I stop running before they do!0

All this time I thought they were peeping at me. Now I found out its just my speed they're after. I'm crushed.0
-
I find it distracting and annoying when I notice people doing it.

HAHA! That's what I thought too. I had a guy the other day pretending to look something up on his phone when I was walking the indoor track. As I got closer, I realized he was actually taking either pictures or video of me. CREEPY!!!! But, yeah..I think everyone peeps...in fact, it gives me a little rush when someone does it to me. And if you're going to walk//run/ride next to me, you better believe I'm taking a peek.0 -
I don't like stare but I def peek and it is a big motivator for me. I especially love when someone starts after i already have..and they they finish before Im done lol. Im like ya booo yahhh i win lol. I know its not a competition. And when people look at mine im like what you want a challenge? lol0
-
Guilty. I try to be subtle about it... maybe glance as I'm walking behind the row of treadmills, rather than glancing at my neighbor while exercising.
I'm completely oblivious as to whether or not anyone's been peeping on me.0 -
I sometimes look over just out of curiosity, but my the odd time I do treadmill workouts, I'm doing a structured training routine so I don't try and "outdo" the other.0
-
I do it! Might be creepy but I know everybody is curious to see what speed everyone else is running at! I see it as motivation and a compliment if someone is peeking at yours.0
-
I never thought about "peeping". I usually cover my info with a towel and concentrate on my music etc. Seems to make the miles go by faster.0
-
I look but only at the people who make it look easy to run and 8 mph! I have enough trouble running at 5.2 mph and I want to know how they make it look like they are jogging and NOT sprinting like I would be?!?0
-
I have a treadmill at home, not just because of the "peepers" because I hate being judged/compared to, period. Staring people make me what to ask them "What ARE you staring at?". I feel like if I am in a Gym enviroment, it's only to be the butt of someone joke . If I catch the wind of it (And I have!!) I'll tell them exactly where to go. Self-esteem issues can you tell.... I know. I'll hide at home for now Thanks!
Now if my tax check would come so I can get it fixed I'd actually be happy!!!
To each thier own, Be Happy! Lose it at/on your pace :flowerforyou:0 -
