Very Disappointing Day?

So I finished week 9 today...a little background: I started the biggest loser for the Wii 9 weeks ago at 263 pounds. I got down to 231 pounds. Two weeks ago I gained a pound, an anomaly I though as I was working out 6 days a week and keeping all my calories accounted for and under 1900 as suggested (gross not net). Last week I weighed in and had gained two pounds...although I went to Atlanta on business and did go out two nights, I also worked out every day and three times on one day...ok time to step it up and make up for lost ground.

Before I went on my trip I paid for March, April and May at the local health club because they had a pool, and I knew I would add swimming to my routine if I paid in advance. So on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the following Monday I got up at 5:00am and went swimming, then came home from work and did my Wii workout (on Sunday I added an hour of Yoga class at the health club). On Wednesday and Thursday, I got up at 5:00am and did my Wii workout and came home and added a shorter version that focused on core. During this time I kept my calories in the correct range.

Fast forward to this morning when I weighed in..you guessed it, I gained...FOUR POUNDS! I was so pissed! I let myself sulk and get mad, I even went out and had a huge burger and some beer...and when I did the bartender that hadn't seen me in a long time said "boy you've lost weight haven't you?" This came after three or four other people said something similar during the day...Even I noticed, my suit was too big and had to be cinched in the back.

Nine weeks ago my clothes were tight, and there is no way I could swim a half mile only not to mention work all day and then do another 50 minute workout before bed, not to mention a three workout day! Screw the scale this week! I will do my best I will work hard and I will take more steps to being healthier because I am not doing this for a number, I am doing this for my life and for my children and seven added pounds (and I hate all the skinny people that try to help by saying it's probably muscle...I'm not on steroids for god's sake!) will not stop me from that goal! I am in control, not a scale, not food, not my circumstances, me!

Now I feel better, but I need to get to bed, 'cause I get to wake up at 5:00am and take one more step to a healthy life!!!

Congrats to you!!! Thats great success.. and I think your on the right track..just curious how much of your exercises calories are you eating back.. half? All?? Maybe change this.. sometimes it helps to trick your body.. I know that helped me...

I don't understand it either. I started Jillian Michaels 30 day shred and have been adding 30 to 50 min of cardio with it, and I gained a pound. But, my clothes are much looser than last week. I was bummed, because I have a long way to go to get to my goal, but I told myself that I will not give up. I am exercising for my health, I am eating within my calories and choosing good foods- for my health. I figure eventually it will come off.....

I was about to open my mouth to offer an encouraging point that could make you feel better, but after reading all the way to the bottom, I won't. But I can tell you, I'm NOT skinny, and I'm sure alot of NOT skinny people would try to tell you the same thing. I'm sure with your excercise routine you feel GREAT. And I bet it feels more GREAT when people tell you how good you look and how your clothes are starting to be too big. Just celebrate those victories! :) Forget the scale! When your clothes stop getting big, and you stop shrinking, then you can throw the biggest temper tantrum (and let it ALL out) we'll be there with you. Just stay on your course, you're doing fine! :)

great attitude! Just keeping pushing and the scale will turn around. I had the same thang happen to me when I hit a plateau and the scale kept going up them sudden it dropped 5-6lbs. I had to change up my routine a little bit which you have done so it will get better. Best of luck to you. My moto for this weight loss adventure is: FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION! Keep up the hard work.

maybe the gross of 1900 is too low after you exercise. you lost a lot in 9 weeks averaging 3.5 per week. if the calories are too low your body will be scared you will starve. it's great though to hear about the progress! keep going!

Don't know how many times I tell people this, but here goes again~

Don't worry about the scale, use a tape measure~ it's more accurate and after all you're not hauling around a scale to show everybody how much weight you've lost, but people can SEE inches lost:wink:

Congrats on your work so far, stay motivated and you'll continue to see results!

Great job looking at the positive outlook. I don't know if you recalculated your calories or goal, after you've lost so much weight MFP can recalculate things for you. Bottom line, keep doing what you are doing and don't give up. Take things one day at a time. Hope you enjoyed that burger, I surely crave for one.

I was going to say the same thing. If your body is holding on that weight once you start eating like that, maybe you were underfeeding it. You should consider eating back some of your calories to make sure you are netting at least 1200 maybe more. If you lost 3.5 lb a week that is more than the recommended 2 a week.

Congratulations on your success. I am glad you were able to pick yourself up. Best wishes on continued success.

Appreciate it, I am going to go with net calories this week and see if there is a difference!

UPDATE: So I went to net calories, meaning I added the exercise calories burned to my total allotted for the day. I lost the original 4 pounds plus one more. I am carefully watching everything to tweak, INCLUDING how my clothes are fitting :)
Thanks again for the encouragement and the ideas!
