Hi Everyone,

So, my doctor reccomended a low-fat, low-starch diet for me, and I've been working with a nutritionist who has reccomended a high-protein, low-carb type meal plan. However, I'm having trouble knowing where to look for recipes that work with this diet and finding ones that I (a very inexperienced cook and busy college student) am able and have time to make. Does anyone have any reccomendations? They would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Low carb AND low fat sounds like a miserable way to eat unless you want to be eating egg whites and extra lean protein and very little else... Not quite sure what to recommend. Why low fat AND low carb? Perhaps you should focus on Low-GI foods and heart healthy fats, instead of cutting them down/out completely? The TYPES of carbs and fats make all the difference, IMO.
  • To make this easy for you , stay away from bread, rice and flour. I do the low carb high protein diet. This is my typically meal.

    Breakfast
    3 boil egg white
    1 tomatoe with sea sald
    1 cup of coffee- black
    4 melba toast rounds

    Lunch
    100 grams of tiger shrimp
Greek salad- no dressing or olives
    Jello cup

    Dinner
    100 grams of chicken breast
    Cabbage
    Jello cup
    6 strawberries.

If you type in low carb diet recieps, a bunch of menu ideas will come up, and then you can use my fitness pal to see how much calories it has. It is very difficult getting into this type of diet, but after the first week if you survie, you truly will not feel hungry.

    Good luck

i did this diet over the summer...it was very difficult and lead to lots of health problems for me :( I really hope the same does not happen for you! I suggest egg whites, chicken, cottage cheese (in moderation).

Did they give you a macronutrient ration to follow? the first phase of the p90x eating plan is fairly low carb/ low fat. It's 50% protein, 30% carb, and 20% fat. I found it difficult to follow in that it takes a lot of planning to get your meals to work out that way, and I wound up having to drink 3-4 protein shakes a day on top of my regular meals. However, the fat literally starts to melt off with this kind of eating.

I'd usually have scrambled eggs (one whole plus 1/2c whites) with veies and low fat turkey sausage for breakfast. (Not like a breakfast sausage, just a regular one, sliced into the egg) and a protein shake for breakfast. A HUGE salad with turkey or chicken, a strip of low fat bacon (sliced and fried) 1/4 avocado, and fat free dressing for lunch (ranch works really well with this) And maybe some grated low fat cheese. Lean meat and veggies for dinner. And protein shakes with veggies or a piece of fruit for snacks. I was seriously stuffed all the time. I felt like I was eating WAAAAY too much, and couldn't understand how that would possibly help me lose weight, but it did. It just takes a lot of planning =)

I was higher than my regular 45% carbs on 2 days last week so I replaced rice with cabbage I cut up and sautéed with some roasted red pepper and garlic club house seasoning to lay under my chicken stir-fry. The first time It was good the second time It felt like a diet aka death sentence. Good luck, and I agree with other comments, low carb AND low fat seems very odd. All low-carb diets are higher in fat to make up for it.
