Cholesterol

I'm having a hard time staying under the cholesterol requirements. Although I have remaining calories, carbs, and fats, (usually over on the protein), when I jump to the full screen, the cholesterol is always too high. One hard boiled egg is 215, which leaves next to nothing. And, a can of sardines (which is supposed to be good) is 90. Is anyone experiencing the same? And perhaps that category should be on the initial diary screen so one can see the day's results when menu planning. Update to this post: I did find that I could put cholesterol on the first screen, and I did. I added sodium as well. Both categories add up very quickly.

You can set your diary setting to show cholesterol..i took of sugar and put cholesterol because well hell...I'm always over on sugar and it doesnt separate good from bad sugar so need for me to keep track of it cause I'm not eating any bad sugar..just fruits, yogurt and the likes. Now with the cholesterol, it you get that many chol cals from a whole egg...try only eating the egg whites or one whole egg and one egg white..I only eat the whites because I am on the borderline of having high cholesterol...and baked chicken should only be runings 60-90 chol cals...But if you are trying to lower your chol..you have to conciously eat foods to do it!!!

Something to keep in mind with cholesterol that many people are unaware of is that it really depends on how the food is prepred/paired with. For example, a hard boiled egg has insignificant levels of fat, especially saturated and transfat. Same with plain shrimp, like in a shrimp cocktail. Thoses foods are perfectly healthy and good for you if eaten that way, however, when the same high cholesterol food is either cooked with high fat ingredients, it dramatically increases how that cholesterol is absorbed. So take that same egg, fry it in butter or that shrimp and deep fry it...you have a totally different issue on your hands.

So yes, if you are watching cholesterol for heart health, keep an eye on the total levels at the end of the day, however, keep in mind how much saturated fat and trans fats you're eating with it. Otherwise, don't worry too much about eggs. (just don't have more than 2 in a day.) Also, if you're making an omlete or something that requires multiple eggs, it's a good idea to use mostly the whites. HOWEVER...all the beneficial nutrients of the egg arein the yolk, so don't scrap thoses entirely.

Thanks for the clarification, the numbers seem so hard and fast. Sometimes confusing even though I want to use my own common sense. Will continue to work on a happy balance.
