Carbs only?

Is anyone counting only carbs like me? I could sure use a buddy to help keep me on track.

    I count carbs--I try to keep between 80-100

    I do the same. I take one day to go a bit over on them.

    That MUST be hard. The lowest i can keep my carb intake is aroound 70ish but it's not including my 20grams of fiber. Do you deduct fiber from your carb total?

    How do you manage to gain muscle mass with only 30grams of carbs? Are you doing this to lose weight? I'm trying to do both at the sametime but i find it to be so hard! ;(

    I was thinking of doing the same thing once a week. It doesn't hurt your weight loss?

    I watch both for weight loss. My calories are set to 1200 a day and my carbs i try to keep as low as possibly. Hardly ever over 100, and most the time closer to 50g a day. I dont find it too difficult.

    I take the total carbs - fiber carbs to come to my actual carbs consumed per day. Right now Mary, my Doctor, wants me to concentrate strictly on weight loss only. Once I get below 200 lbs. then we will work on muscle. I'm doing really well so far to sticking to the plan. I don't know if you can see my daily food diary or not. It might help to see it. If you can't I will send you what I have eaten today first thing tomorrow morning so that you can see how I am doing it.

    You don't need carbs in order to gain muscle, you just need enough nutrition to keep from burning it. But, you won't gain muscle while eating at a calorie deficit anyway. Your brain runs on carbs alone though, so you need to make sure you get enough or else brain function suffers.

    I don't believe in restricting Carbs, they are the most effectiveness form of fuel for your body. Think of your body as a car that requires premium fuel. Complex Carbs would be like the premium fuel. Protein is more like engine oil that keeps the engine (lean body mass) working, and fat is like the lubrication on the parts.

    Restricting carbs too much and eating too much protein would be like putting engine oil in your gas tank, if it does work you will not perform at your best. High performance athletes eat well over 50% calories from carbs, marathon runners are more like 60%.

    Regular fuel would be like simple sugars/carbs, can use it but not as good as premium and may hinder performance.
