S.B.F. Challenge. . .September 29th

Morning. . .

Having one of those "it's 5 am and I'm awake mornings". Fun.

Last night I ate Korean Food at 9 pm. I really enjoyed it. I looked at my plate and thought. . ."man. . .that's a lot of oil. Good thing I don't eat this all the time." and that was it. No. . ."Oh my God! I can't eat this! How much sodium is in this? (answer: what's Korean for "a metric buttload"?) I just ate it. . .and it was really good. I was starving.

The other thing I've noticed in three days of not recording is that waiting too long to eat equals overeating. So, if I eat when I'm a little bit hungry, I eat a little bit and then stop. But, if I'm hungry. . .crazy time! So, I'm trying to think "eat like you're a four year old."

Today, I'm trying a yoga class at my gym after a short "endurance" set on the elliptical. My spin instructor has given me the advice to mix up my cardio and do shorter sessions. So, for example, yesterday I did intervals (the elliptical has this cool program called "extreme heart rate" where you're trying to both raise and lower your heart rate over the course of the workout. . .essentially sprinting and then walking, etc.) and today I'll just aim for a steady heart rate in the neighborhood of 70% of my max. This feels too easy to be a workout, but it's apparently really good for you to work in this zone sometimes.

Well, that's my novel of the day. . .
so, in five words or less:

elliptical.
yoga.
water.
vits.
commuter walk.

oh, that's six words. sorry.

Take care of yourselves today, everyone!.. . .are we making next Monday a new starting point? I know that the 1st is before then, but I like the Monday start myself.

    Hello everyone!

Viv, I'm glad to hear that listening to your body seems to going well so far! How brave of you. Keep us updated on how you're feeling!

For my Tuesday, I think I need to take a little break. I've been so worn out this week, and tonight my netball game isn't till 9 20pm and I've already done a Combat class and walked for a few km's. I just feeel tired from the weekend (all the sun and parties!) and need a day of rest I think. So that said, my goals for tomorrow are:

    lots of water
leisurely walk through the botanic gardens on my lunch break
RELAX and enjoy dinner out with a friend

    Have a great Monday! :flowerforyou:

I agree with the next Monday start - that will give me a couple of days to seriously look back at the last several weeks and figure out what I want my goals to be for the next round. And, it's easier for my dry-erase chart on the refrigerator.
The other thing I've noticed in three days of not recording is that waiting too long to eat equals overeating. So, if I eat when I'm a little bit hungry, I eat a little bit and then stop. But, if I'm hungry. . .crazy time! So, I'm trying to think "eat like you're a four year old."

This is 100% true for me as well. If I feel even a little bit hungry, I have a piece or fruit, or 5-10 almonds, or a piece of string cheese - plus water. It takes the edge off and if I'm still hungry a half hour later, I'll see about a real meal. But if I just wait because I think 'oh, I'm eating in an hour' - bad news!

    Happy Monday!

    Good morning!

Viv- I'm so proud of you for making it through the weekend not counting. It is hard for MFP addicts to step away on occasion  :flowerforyou:

It's a brisk morning in the blue ridge mountains (in the sun it's about 50 degrees) and I'm headed out for a run then lifting. Will check in after the fact!

I'm Officially starting my challenge today 'cause I can't start mid-week either, but never really got into the September challenge. Just call me a cheater for getting a week's head start!

    Hey all,
Today is a super busy day! I have to clean up the upstairs today. My inlaws are coming back to stay a couple of days. We have two therapists coming out this evening to work with Alex, and my laptop is down. It was running slow so my husband said it would be a good idea to reload windows. I am using the desktop and I am so not used to the keyboard. lol
Today is a lot of cleaning, I HOPE I can get Shred level one in! They will be here early afternoon so I will have to see what I can get done! I did my push ups: week 6 day one again. Not any easier! I'm still really sore from working on the car this weekend, so that didn't help. I am going to try to log my food today. I could if I wouldn't stop and read my favorite posts! OK. I'm going now.

Monday works for me as well. It's weird reading the posts while reading my Intuitive Eating book. I am obsessed with food - how foods are good or bad - which makes us good or bad. I'm logging this week so I have something to bring my dietician, but I may stop logging when we begin the next challenge. I gained almost 2 lbs the past week, so this is extra scary.

Yesterday I let go with the exercise. I taught a reasonably hard yoga class and did a warm up on the cybex. That was it. No enforced 750 calories. Weird - though I didn't overeat at dinner. Today I'm walking and riding my bike to and from yoga. Ragweed is high today - yuck. We finally get some "outside" weather and the allergens spike.

CP - yep, Burn After Reading. I like some of them "Ladykillers" "Raising Arizona" - but some comedies I find depressing "Big Lebowski" "Fargo" - and of course I didn't bother with "No Country" because I knew what kind of book Cormac Mccarthy wrote. I'm excited they are doing a Chabon novel "The Yiddish Policemen's Union" - hopefully it will be more accessible that the book, which was a bit of a hard read. Also saw the latest Woodie Allen movie this past week - my comment was "if I wanted to see a male fantasy, I would have watched a porno" - though I'm not a big Woody Allen fan.

V - I agree that it's good for you to work out in the 70% zone. Sometimes my body demands it.

 three 1-mile repeats and 1 mile walk. CHECK!

I was about to hit the weight room when I realized there was a class in there, so waiting patiently for my turn! Geez, stupid classes, oh, yeah, I work at a college, wait a minute, those classes pay my paycheck

Yep, a bit slap happy for a Monday morning, don't ask

  That is what I almost always think when I watch Woody (or Woodie  ) Allen movies. He's a bit of a lech (letch?), I think. Although, Match Point was pretty good - much darker than I was expecting. As for Coen Brothers - I enjoyed Fargo quite a bit, but Lebowski left me saying 'huh?'. I've been told I need to see it two or three times and then I'll find it hilarious, but I'm just not sure it's worth a few more hours of my life.

I went ahead and logged my calories for yesterday, and even with the zucchini bread I was over by less than 100 calories. That was a nice surprise. I forgot that I tend to wake up later and only eat 2 real meals on the weekend.

    Morning all!

I had a question for you Viv but I forgot it! dang! haha If I remember I will ask later! hahaha

Im so proud of myself! I went over my cals after dinner eating some Teddy Grahams at my parents, so when I got home I burned 100cals (went over by 70). Just after that my husband got home and brought in a package of chocolate cookies!! I was hungry!! I was still sweating from my little workout.. so I went to the cookies got 4, put them in a little bag and put them in the cupboard for today! (and I did eat them haha) But I managed not to eat them on the spot! haha

Yesterday I burned 360cals. I weighed in at 192lbs!!  2lbs and I will FINALLY made it to 190!! I thought I would be there by June!:grumble: Then 8lbs from there and im at my half way!! Bumping my cals up seriously helped!! Im so happy for that!! I dont know what im doing today. I think I will pack more and just try to stay in my cals.

Is the eliptical like cross country skiing? Is that what it is suppose to be like?

I Did It! I did Shred! I did not think I'd be able to make it through after push ups and an hour of heavy cleaning and moving furniture! I have more in me than I thought!
I am going to try to do the Shred for the month of October at least 4-5X a week. I said that in Sept. and didn't finish so we'll see how it goes.
I wish I had more time to comment on your posts but I have three hours to finish getting done what I need to and I sitll have a lot to do. I'll check back in with you all tomorrow if I can stay away that long!

What I use is a "cross trainer" at the gym. . .which is somewhere in between cross country ski machine and running. It's kind of hard to describe, because you're on giant pedals (think pedaling a bike while standing up, sort of). If I was technically proficient, I could post a pic. . .but I never figured that one out.

It's supposed to have similar benefits to running, but far, far easier on the knees.:flowerforyou:

I will join you guys for Shred as well! It is a short workout so I shouldn't have trouble doing it, but I just bailed on the September challenge for some reason. I think I need to either do it in the morning before work (I usually have a hard enough time dragging myself out of bed), or I need to do it instead of some other exercise I would normally be doing after work. I was just feeling like my whole evening was gone, by the time I got out of work, went to the gym, came home, did pushups, made/ate dinner, and did Shred. And I need to reserve an hour every night to work on my project as well.

Is this what you are talking about:
    http://www.cybexintl.com/products/cardio/350A/intro.aspx

When I use it, I say, "I used the cybex". It's closer to cross country skiing; the elliptical is closer to biking to me.

not quite. . .I use this one:

    http://us.commercial.lifefitness.com/content.cfm/xtrainerfamily

I wish my gym had the model similar to this, where you can actually work at an incline. I haven't used that one since the Y back home, but it's my favorite.

Whew! I made it through this crazy day! Unfortunately my son did not. We ended up having 3 therapists come over tonight. With his mammy and pappy being here too he just melted down. He went and hid in our room! Poor guy!
I however feel great! I got the entire house clean and cooked meals and worked out! I'm exhausted! Tomorrow I won't be able to do Shred but I am going to try to go for a walk at least.
    See you all tomorrow!

Hi All! I'm back! Took a little break from MFP for a week or two except for sporadic checkins. I have to admit, I've been a bit bummed lately -- gained four pounds back somewhere along the way in the last two months. It seems like I have to work SO hard to lose even a single pound and all I have to do to gain it back is slack off the tiniest bit.

Although if I was being truly honest I would admit that my eating habits took a turn for the worse on these last two shoots.

So I'm back on the road again, coming atcha from Minnesota and facing another 12-day (2 days down already) "challenge."

Last shoot I started an accountability thread, but I think this time around I'm going to keep making the effort to check in with you, my friends on this S.B.F. Challenge thread. It's worked for me in the past, and it will work for me again!

    Today:
    * Kept within calories
    * Elliptical 25 minutes
    * Weights 25 minutes
    * Drank my water, took my vitamins

Oh and I'm up for starting next Monday as well!
