Take Pills and Working Out?

Friend of mine (who lost around 40lb) suggested the following:
take 1 x bronkaid, 1 x nodoz, 1 x 81mg aspirin twice a day once in the morning and once at lunch

Any thoughts on this? I'm considering but wanting to know what anyone else had in mind.

I mentioned to him that I'm going through a bottle (almost done) of GNC x12 but I don't think it's working that well and probably wont get another bottle when it runs out.

I wouldn't do it. Sounds like a crazy concoction to me.

I would not take pills before talking to a doctor about possible side effect. Could cause stomach bleeding and all kinds of issues....

the weight will not stay off.....as soon as you stop this it will all come back plus more. the key is to change your lifestyle, that is to say learn to eat healthier and correctly proportioned foods plus exercise. that's it. it's simple plus you are not adding chemicals to your body.

in my professional opinion, I'm a nurse, it sounds like a heart attack or stroke waiting to happen... the aspirin may thin the blood but it will NOT counteract the effects of the bronkaid and nodoz! that stuff is NOT safe, there's a reason it isn't FDA approved.

No, no no . . . did I say "NO".

Bronkaid is ephidrene . . . unless you are an asmatic and your doctor has prescribed these DO NOT take them. This was a fad that started in the 80's, or so, and has been proven again and again that it is not healthy for the average person.
Nodoz is basically a caffene pill . . . again completely unneccesary, go have a cup of coffee if you want an "alert" pill.

The ONLY way to lose weight and maintain your health is to do it properly, eat a well balance diet within your calories and exercise, period.

Unfortunately I agree with another post, your friend is an idiot (no offence intended).

My boyfriend is studying to be a nurse and was told by several professors (in response to a report he did that mentioned how many pills his father was on) that unless a pill is prescribed to you by a doctor, you better be damn near close to dying before you take it (and that's even for basic tylenol, etc.). Popping pills is a bad idea, there's lots of natural ways to help.

    lol

ok so that's a bad idea - good thing i never bought anything!

i'm trying to find something to help me work out more efficiently - if that's possible without just building up endurance. i'm having trouble with the 'weight loss' workout method (low / high / cooldown / repeat). i know i'm out of shape but at the same time i hate looking like a loser at the gym.

Good old fashioned hard work, my friend. There are no short cuts. And working out on those pills would most likely give you a heart attack. Then you would really look like a loser at the gym.

There is absolutely no quick way to lose your weight. I'm not sure how much you have to lose but you need to change your thinking. Your fat didn't appear on your doorstep overnight, and refuse to go away. It took years of bad choices to get where you are today.

Learn a bit about your body. Research BMR, determine what your body requires at your current age, height, sex & weight. In order to lose a 1 lb of "you", you need to burn (or create a calorie deficit) 3500 calories. So if you wanted to lose a lb in a week, you'd need to create a 500 calorie deficit daily.

This is what MFP is doing for you if you use it...and use it correctly. Log absolutely everything because it's the little stuff that will hurt you in the long run.

What you look like at the gym shouldn't really matter....when I see obese folks at the gym I silently give them props because I know exactly how much it must hurt to be doing exercise in that condition. Good for them for wanting to better themselves.

You simply don't know what you don't know, so get out there and educate yourself a bit on nutrition and your body and find what works for you.

But not a bunch of pills...it's mentally weak to think that a pill can solve your problems.

there's really no shortcut to getting back into shape. You just gotta do it. I know the first couple of weeks can suck, but they are required. And trust me, unless you're really doing something weird not as many people at the gym notice you as you think. I know everyone thinks they go there and they are making a spectacle of themselves, but you aren't everyone's there for the same reasons (well, almost everyone), you may even impress a few folks as you are able to go longer and faster on a machine, or put up more weight, or do more reps. You'd be surprised.

Don't worry about what anyone at the gym might think! Most of the time people aren't concerned what everyone else is doing in the gym and if they are its probably they want to get some ideas! So just put on some music and do your thing! You'llo get in better shape and things will be come easier for you! Just remember there are NO short cuts in losing weight but it will get easier in time!

Seems that your friend is trying to duplicate the ECA stack; ephedra, caffeine, and aspirin. Bronkaid, just doesn't have a high enough stimulant percentage to really do anything.

I think its fine to take an energy cheat from time to time, but I think this concoction is a waste. Anyone who drinks coffee, tea, soft drinks, etc. etc. is taking a stimulant.

Anyway, your friend could be experiencing a placebo effect. I just really don't see any way they could be getting a large enough dose. Plus, I really don't like excessive caffeine, it makes me crash.

One very important factor= you and your friend are different. What works for them may be a mistake for you. In the end it will be up to you to decide what is best.

Most guys do two things at the gym...I promise that one of them isn't sneering at others. Everyone, no matter who you are has insecurities.

Taking pills is dangerous. Taking pills and exercising can put tremendous strain on your heart and lungs. Also, the risk of dehydration would also increase, that's for sure.

I know it's alluring to want a quick fix, but honestly, that just is not the way to do it. I don't recommend taking the advice of your "friend."

    Two things:
    1. Regarding the pills you are taking from GNC...most diet pills don't even start working for about 4 - 6 weeks. So you may not have been taking them long enough to notice a difference.

    2. There was just a story on like CNN or something about mixing pills to produce weight loss. I do not remember all the specifics about it, or if it even has a connection to what your friend takes, but the basic point of the story is that it is dangerous.

I won't tell you not to take diet pills...I have personally done it, I think a lot of people have. Looking for the quick fix. I used to roll my eyes (mentally, not for real), at the people who would say, "pills aren't necessary, the only way to lose weight is to work out and eat right". I finally took that advice...I have been watching calories and working out with a lot of cardio and it is finally happening for me.

My personal opinion is that at some point, everyone looked like a "loser" at the gym, you do not just get ripped naturally. I agree with the other poster who responded to you that when I see overweight people in the gym, or in my Zumba class, I just want to go hug them and give them SO much credit for taking such a huge step in becoming healthy.
You CAN do this!!!! If you would like, add me as a friend, I would love to cheer you on as you go!
