Post workout milk...

Hi. I just started a new dvd workout program and am having muscle soreness. I have been told that I should drink chocolate milk after the workout. I am not sure if this is to help with the soreness or if it is for other benefits. Does anyone know if I can use Coconut Milk, Almond Milk or Soy Milk instead and get the same or better benefits? I really hate cows milk if it is the best way I will hold my nose and drink the stuff but I would rather the alternatives.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

The chocolate milk has more carbs to help replace glycogen and refuel your muscles.0

"I really hate cows milk..." Blasphemy!!!
Seriously though, your body will adjust in time. If you can stomach it, ibiprofin. I don't have a clue how to spell ibuprofin.
I've never tried, but my running partner swears by spinach. He snacks on it right out of the bag, blukkk....0 -
eat a light protein meal about an hour before the workout and a second protein meal afterward it will help you out tremendously, aim for about 1 gram for every pound of body weight if you are doing HIIT or intense workouts. I usually do a small serving of chili prior to workout and a shake post workout. The choc milk is to replace glycogen but couple that with some proteing and it will make a more effective punch to the muscles.0

not sure about the milk - but you could try putting l-glutamine into the almond milk or water or juice etc, that's supposed to help with muscle soreness and recovery.
or you could try buying a recovery powder that mixes with water - i know ON (optimum nutrition) makes some and apparently high quality.0 -
I don't think there is any sort of "secret mix" in choc milk for PWO it just comes down to the fact that it's pretty close to what you want in your macronutrients. I aim for .4g/lb BW for carbs and .2g/lb BW for protein and minimal fat as it is slow digesting. So just do some maths and see how various other sorts of milk fit in with the above. I doubt it needs to be spot on anyway. You just want to make sure you get some carbs and protein quickly after a stenuous workout to start some protein synthesis.0

It's what in da chocolate milk, whey and casein, excellent after a hard workou. Coconut milk is too fatening. Chocolate is the way to go.
