Lower back pain help!!!

Not sure if this is where I should post this but... for a couple years, I've noticed that when I walk long distances my lower back has this really bad pain in it. When I rub my hand on that part of my back, I can feel some sort of bump or knot or something, feels like my spin or something. Everyday walking doesn't bother me, but mainly when I'm on my feet for most of the day. For instance, I was at an amusement park the other day, and the first couple hours I was fine, then as the day continued, my back started hurting more and more, with the only relief was when I sat down; standing in lines waiting for rides is the worst! I felt like an old lady having to sit down every so often and I'm only 19! I'm not sure if this is just weight related, as I carry a lot of my weight on my stomach and back, or if its a bad posture thing, so I just wanted to get some of your opinions! Thanks ahead of time!

Head to the doctors ASAP. Your back can be one of the most problematic things, you don't want to mess around with it.0

I have had back problems all my life and the best thing you could do is go to your doctor and have it checked out. And then if needed, see a specialist. I have bulging disks and my pain sounds similiar to what you are describing. BUT only a professional doctor can give you a real answer! Good luck!0

I agree that you should see your doc. But a few other things you may want to try are.....good support comfortable shoes and back stretches. I found that stretching helps my back a lot. Also nice hot showers / bath will help to relax those sore muscles. A deep tissue massage works wonders for me too! Your back problems could be a combination of weight, posture, non-supporting old shoes. Or something more serious.......for a doc to care for it.0

Get professional advice.. aka a Dr's & any therapy he recommends. In the long run, you will need to start strengthening your core & back, so that all else is then easier. I have had two car accidents & back issues related to that. I needed to get surgery for my last issue.. but after all the recovery & inflammation subsides.. strengthening those muscles is even more vital.

See a chiropractor...I had lower back problems and I no longer have pain (unless I do something crazy like move furniture or lay flooring)...I see my chiropractor every 4 weeks (initially it was more often, but now just maintenance visits). I also use a "Roman Chair" for back strengthening and do crunches for core strengthening (see MD before starting any strength exercises).
And...wear good shoes always!!!!!!!! if you are standing for a long period of time, do stretches...bend at the knee while in line...and stay away from the wooden roller-coasters (they wreak havoc on the back and neck...my personal opinion)!!!0 -

Definitely need to think about the shoe thing, I usually just wear sandals- no support...so from now on I'll wear tennis shoes0 -
i'm a physical therapist and see many people with back pain, daily, especially a lot of younger people. it sounds to me like you need more strength in your core (abs and back) and may want to see a doctor to rule out any small fractures in your lumbar spine (spondylosis-it's not normal, but quite common). I would avoid doing any exercises at this time that puts your back into a lot of extension, i.e. running, swimming, etc. try some spinning or cycling and see if that is comfortable and doesn't irritate your back.

Back pain can be so different things. And it can be hard to diagnose. I had debilitating lower back pain that began when I was 7-months pregnant and persisted long after (my child is now 3 1/2). All scans and x-rays showed up normal, but any amount of walking (even a grocery trip) could leave me with a sharp, radiating pain that would last for hours. But in the past two months things have dramatically changed. Since I began eating better, reducing my weight, and practicing yoga 3-times a week, I have had a huge reduction in pain. While it did get worse over the first couple of weeks, as my muscles have gotten stronger, my back is hurting less. I even went on a long (10 mile) bike ride last weekend, which in the past would have left me aching for at least 3 days, and I had no pain afterwards. I have no explanation for the change other than diet and exercise.0

I have the same problem. For me, I think it has to do with having weak core muscles. I need to strengthen the muscles in my back and abdomen.0

I have lower back problems as well. I have been seeing a chiropractor weekly and he has done wonders for me!! I just got word last week that I can go every 2 weeks now (thank goodness! My back loves the chiro but my bank account does not!)
The majority of my problems stem from poor posture, sitting at a desk too much, and weak core muscles, hence why I am here.0
