Hi! I was curious if anyone on here is vegan or not. I am gluten intolerant which basically means I have allergic reactions to foods that have wheat, barley, or rye. My best friend is a vegan and she is allergic to dairy products.

Any suggestions from vegans or those who have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity would be awesome!

That sounds like an impossibly restrictive diet to me. Some times we have to be aware of physical limitations and just eat as consciously as we can. Here’s a link that explains what’s involved in the gluten free vegan diet: http://www.vegfamily.com/health/gluten-free-vegan-diet.htm . Hopefully someone with specific experience will be able to give you some advice. Good luck.

I am vegan, and use very little wheat products in my diet.
I think food is delicious, and there are many of options out there.
Vegan opens a new world to food, food choices, and new tastes.

    here is a sample day:

Fruit is a wonderful breakfast, as well as old fashioned or steel cut oats with raw honey or pure maple syrup.
Lunch can consist of the largest salad ever! With a reasonable dressing of your choice.
If it is cold outside, soup or chili are great options!
If you just into some cooked veggies try a potato or steamed veggies from the frozen section of the store.
Dinner can be a whole array of yummy-ness
Of course there are the same options as lunch like salad, soup or veggies but dinner gives you a time to experiment
    with new recipes.
Vegan enchiladas with homemade spanish rice
Stir fry veggies, tofu and rice
lentil loaf with veggies on the side
    and much more!
Gluten free products are coming more and more available, just look around a health food store for awhile.
There are great pasta substitutes made of rice, there are even gluten free dairy free Newman's Own Cookies!
If you can think of it, there is probably a gluten free dairy free version somewhere.

    Good luck!

:glasses: Vegan here! You'll find that MFP has a huge variety of users from all different walks of life, and luckily there's a significant vegan community :)

As far as the celiac issues go, you can definitely work around them and still maintain a healthy diet. I know both celiac vegans as well as vegans who are allergic to nuts, and both find that they simply need to take a bit more care to make sure they are eating well.

The ideas posted by joanna are excellent! I'd like the suggest the following in addition:
    - corn tostadas with spicy black bean hummus, guacamole, and salsa
    - mushroom bourguignon (this recipe, adapted as necessary http://whiskflipstir.com/2010/11/04/champignon-bourguignon/) with spelt pasta
    - quinoa, rice, sprouted beans, hummus etc
    - good fresh vegetables are very versatile: enjoy them raw, steamed with creamy lemon tahini or spicy almond sauce, roasted with cumin powder and olive oil, on top of pizza (watch the crust, natch), in sauces , soups and stews, magnificent towering salads, seared with garlic, ginger, and soy sauce (make sure the soy sauce is wheat free, because most aren't!)... thousands and thousands of meal ideas!

I would of course recommend you speak to a registered dietician/nutritionist if you have any concerns.
    Good luck!!!
