I think it depends on what your goals are. Insanity is more cardio so would be good if you still feel you have weight to lose. P90X builds more muscle and less about cardio, although it does have some in and you can get the lean version which does more.

I'm currently doing Insanity and recently bought p90x to do once I've finished. It's tough but worth it I think.

personally i got insanity because i didn't have to have weights or a pull up bar. it's super intense and you use your own body weight. i loved it. so if you don't wanna buy the extra stuff i would go with insanity

I'm doing P90X because I wanted to build muscle and also because I have some knee problems, and Insanity can be hard on the knees. Plus, I'm training for a half-marathon, so I get enough cardio. I'm doing the lean version and I really have gotten much smaller since I started. I haven't lost a ton of weight, probably around 8-10 pounds in two months, but I've dropped a few jeans sizes and gotten much stronger. Still, the results with Insanity are amazing! I'm always a little jealous when I see someone doing it.

Doing P90x classic right now. It is an investment of about 120 to get all the equip: pull up bar, bands, weights, HRM. All that being said in 12 days I've dropped my body fat percentage by 8 points. Only a weight loss of 1.5 lbs, but lots of new muscle. Don't worry about getting bulky either as long as you pick appropriate weights. 8-15 lbs for me.

I just started P90X because I want to build some muscle. I don't know about Insanity. Women can lift heavy weights without bulking up. It's almost impossible for women to bulk because we don't have enough testosterone - it's hard enough for men to bulk up. I would go with P90X because it has both cardio and weight lifting and weight lifting is just as important when dieting because when we diet and do cardio we burn muscle mass and fat mass. We only want to burn fat mass. And you do have a choice between Classic (focus weight lifting) and Lean (focus cardio). You have either choice in the one set of DVD's. I also like that he has a DVD devoted to stretching and a DVD devoted to yoga. You do have to have the time to invest in P90x. Average DVD is about an hour and yoga is 90 mintues. You do the Ab Ripper DVD with the weight lifting which turns that into about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Of course you don't have to follow it to a 'T'. That's up to you. And you can just buy resistance bands instead of the pull up bar. But you will need weights. And when weight lifting you can't focus on the scale going down because you are building muscle.
It's that muscle mass you want to keep because building muscle means a higher metabolism and more fat burning throught rest, daily activity and even sleep.

I have a friend here who can deadlift 240lbs. She isn't bulky at all. She's just strong.
