Everyone knows about Corned Beef & Cabbage as a traditional Irish meal for St. Patrick's Day but, did you know that 3 oz. of cooked Corned Beef has 210 calories, 15 g of fat, and 960 mg of sodium?
Did you also know that no part of Ireland is more than 60 miles from the sea? Fish is a very traditional Irish ingredient and is much healthier than beef brisket.
So when you're planning your meal for March 17th, you don't have to break your fitness bank; just consider other traditional Irish recipes.

Did you know that no matter how many traps your kids create you can never catch a Leprechaun? I had 15 years of different traps the kids made every year to catch him. It is a very fun thing for kids to do they are also fun to do to catch the Easter bunny.0

Could you use lean roast beef sandwich slices instead? Or even turkey. Sure, not as traditional but I think people are drinking more green beer then they are eating food, lol!
I've never in my life celebrated St. Patty's day, don't know why the dam thing is always on a Thursday. Enjoy everyone - responsibly of course and be sure to choose the 55 and 67 cal beers if you can.0 -
I live in England and have never ever celebrated or know anyone who celebrates the day, we also don't celebrate St Davids or St Andrews day in any way unless we are Irish, Welsh or Scottish and I am 100% sure that the Irish, Welsh or Scottish are not celebrating St Georges day. I am always highly amused by what a massive deal the Saints day of Ireland is in the States. I didn't even know what time of year St Patricks day was!! Also I had no idea about the corned beef and cabbage thing! :blushing:0

Failure of the U.S. mindset to assume. Oops. But yeah, a lot of people make a big deal of it over here even if they have no Irish blood.0 -

yes, I always thought it really strange for a secular nation! And I do have some Irish 'blood' in the family, I think great grandparents or something, but that is not a big thing here either, I do not consider myself in anyway 'Irish' as a result of where my great someone or other came from. :flowerforyou:0 -

Did not know this was served as a traditional dish!!
Well, here in Belfast some people get the day off work or take it as a holiday (not everyone takes the day off). I think our celebrations tend to simply be getting drunk though! I don't really drink alcohol, so I'll just be in the pub enjoying watching others make fools of themselves :drinker:0
