Half Marathon Training

Options
I'm running a Half Marathon in May, just wondering if anyone has followed a training program and which one they like best. My long run is about 5/6 miles depending on the day. Thanks.

You can put in some info on runnersworld.com and it will create a plan for you, and it's free. There is a customized option that you have to pay for, but look around on the site, there is a free option. I have used this for my last 2 half's, 15k and currently training for full. It has served me well thus far.
Also, I have a book "Run Less, Run Faster" that I got from Runners World. I am incorporating some of the ideas in there into my current training.
    Good Luck!

Great work on deciding to run a half!! I've done two and the first time around I used the Runner's World plan where you only have to run 3 days a week  I like to have a day to rest in between each run, so this was great! I would definitely recommend it, but if you don't go with this one I've heard a lot that your training plan should consist of 3 different types of runs a week: a long run, speed work or spurts at a faster pace in b/w a moderate pace, and hill work to build different muscles and endurance. Good luck :flowerforyou:

I use Hal Higdon's plans...He has gotten me through 10Ks- full marathons..You dont have much time..Your only suppose to increase your distance by about 10% weekly to avoid injury.

Im doing a half marathon in october, but ive only just started training. Not really following a plan yet, just trying to get out running when i can or do bits on the treadmill at home.
Have got 3 children, so the times i can train dont always fit in with the set plans

I did a half 3 weeks ago and really wished I would have taken my training more serious. I like the programs found on marathonrookie.com I shoudl have followed it more closely. I had IT issues at mile 4, but finished (in a way worse time than I wanted) but I finished!!! I will be following a program for a full that I will be racing in November.

Yes only up by only 10% each week...I am training for a 10 miler in May and my longs are up to 6-7 miles (I've run 5 HM's and 1 full)

Hal and Runner's World are great sources. Good luck and pay attention to how you feel to avoid injury!!
