So last April when i was sitting at the gym with my new trainer and we were going over my goals for weight loss and i told her i wanted to lose 40 lbs which seemed outrageous at the time, even my now sister in law looked at me with shock thinking you don't have 40 lbs to lose! Well now I'm about ten lbs away from that goal, and it has taken some time (a year and a half) but i haven't been all too serious about it especially the past six months or so, now i'm back on track eating within my calories and the weight has started to drop again so this week has kinda been like my new week one.

My question is, as i get nearer that goal number what do i do? I'll be 150 which seemed like an awesome number when i was 190, but I think that still puts me in the overweight category. Should i set a new goal now, I feel so confused all of a sudden just looking at my weight loss ticker a minute ago and thinking well yeah I'm close but if i can lose 40 i can lose another 20, right?

What does everyone else think?

I (personally) think that the most important thing is your health (pretty sure everyone will agree). Weight is not it all - fat vs muscle matters more. As for looks, it's mostly about how you feel (I told one guy the other day that he is not fat like me and he replied that the trouble these days is that even skinny girls believe they've gotta lose weight). So, if you want to lose 20 more, go for it, but only if you'd stay healthy by losing.

One warning, though. I have never been overweight and can tell you that "the last 10 pounds to lose" are quite a pain. People seem to lose more when they start, but the last... oh, they are sooo stubborn. Maybe Tami, Banks or Jeremy or other successful people around here have a word to say against my remark.

Good luck with staying healthy, and hey, I almost forgot: congrats for those 30 pounds! :flowerforyou: Awesome! 1,5 year is not a lot, as long as at the end of it you report a success. It's 1,5 years of not gaining ;).

I set a goal of 50 pounds lost at first, and then realized I wanted to get down to at least 150 so changed it to 55, but not after until I started losing. And once I get there, I'll see how badly I want to get to my all-time low adult weight (set at age 19) of 145.

I'd wait and see how you feel at 150. If you're content, there ya go-- no harm, no foul. If not, press on. You know you can do it.

Actually-- since beginning this post, I decided, what the heck-- set 145 as my goal, so I just went in and changed my goals. What the heck-- I'm already dirty, right?

Sounds like we are all doing the same thing

even though I have a LONG way to go, I figure I'll shoot big or should I say small...

so I've changed mine twice who knows third times a charm

I'm with Marla. Reach your goal first and see how you feel. If you want to lose more, then set a new goal. Just make sure you are doing it for yourself.
